The views from the top of the Christchurch Gondola are amazing! You can see for 360 degrees and it is so beautiful. There is a little tour ride you can do at the Gondola station where a young girl talks to you on a video about how the area came to be - it's included in the price so it's... more

We went up the Gondola on a stunning day. Amazing views right across the city. Not sure how many people head outdoors at the top, but those walkways are great. You can go to the Gondola place by taking a bus from City center. Pick the Bus time table flyer from the Tourist Information Office in the center. The 945 metre Gondola ride gently lifts visitors, in the cabin which fits 4 person, almost 500 metres (1500 feet) above sea level. Once up, you get the 360 degree views of... more

The view was amazing, and while I was nervous as I have a fear of heights, it truly was well worth the effort. We took the bus from town and it was very easy to use. It dropped us off at the site and with no lines or waiting, we hopped on the gondola and sped up the mountain to... more

If you have a car, you can drive all along the summit road, which is easily reached from the city. It will be much cheaper and you can stop and look at the amazing views all around. If there are a few of you it is cheaper to rent a car for the day and travel from the city to... more

I live near the gondola. It's a very short trip up and could be disappointing to the children. The gondola station at the top has absolutely fabulous views across Christchurch to the Southern Alps and you can sit and idle away the time in the cafe with panoramic views.
