Finally reopened after the earthquake, the Christchurch Gondola is not to be missed. We visited it soon after it re-opened. I'm an engineer and a bit of a cable car/gondola enthusiast, and it was great to see the equipment in great working order... it looks "as new". We visited on a day with exceptionally strong winds; you could barely stand... More

I've been around Chch for awhile now but have never made it up the gondola before. I had a friend visiting from out of town so we decided to check it out. We were lucky we got a stunning day! The views into Lytellton Harbour, Banks Peninsula, the Southern Alps, and Christchurch city are well worth the trip. I was... More

The ride to the top gives good views back towards Christchurch, but if it is cloudy, you won't see a thing from the top. It also gets very windy, but there is a nice cafe to warm you up.

Thanks for the review, the views are amazing on a good day and it is unfortunate when the cloud rolls in. We are glad the Cafe warmed you up though :-) More

The views are to die for it is amazing beware with children under 7 afraid of heights because you're really high up. I haven't hicked the trail up but I heard from friends it's amazing and you should definetly try with older children or teenagers. When you go up the gondola one of the views you see is the old... Finding the turn-off to the Gondola was a little tricky given the roadworks, however, when we found it we were well rewarded. The views from the top are absolutely stunning. Although the day we went it was a little hazy, we could still see for miles. I thoroughly recommend it anyone considering it.

The gondola ride itself is very good. We have an annual pass, so use it often. The 360 degree views are billion dollar views. The gift shop has a great selection of souvenirs for locals as well as tourists, and at very reasonable prices. The Red Rock Café at the top gondola station has plenty of space, tables, sunshine, and... More

We used to frequent this place pre-earthquakes with the kids, the views and ride were, and still are great, as is the 'time tunnel' experience. However, before the quakes we always commented at how bad the food and service in the cafe was, seemingly resting on the laurels of easy money from the tour buses and therefore not realising the... Christchurch Gondola is a good place to see the an overview of the city, the Banks peninsula and Lyttleton and Diamond harbours from. The gondola ride is not long and it is quite shallow initially but worth a visit. We stopped off there on the way to Akaroa on the first day of a camper van tour of the South... More

I was very impressed with this attraction, only kilometers away from the destruction in Christchurch is an attraction woorth paying for. Th ride up is fun, the views are spectacular and the cafe serves delicious food. Even the gift shop is well stacked with interesting items. Really glad I went here.
