Christchurch Cathedral sits on the edge of the (appropriately named) Cathedral Square in the center of Christchurch. The amazing english style stone exterior is matched by equal beauty inside with high ceilings, arches, columns and stained glass. Admission is by donation and visitors are welcome to join one of the free daily tours to hear additional history of the cathedral.... more

This is a beutiful building and worth a look inside. Entrance is free, but they do ask for donations as the maintenance costs are extravagant. For a few dollars you can climb the steeple for views over the city, but be warned the spiral steps are concrete and very narrow and it can be a bit claustrophobic, but worth it... more
