This place makes you appreciate just how difficult it is to carry on any form of activity in Antarctica. And yet the researchers have come back with just soooo much information, and samples. Their accounts of what they did and the environment they had to work with are fantastic for even the casual observer. Truly interesting, and absorbing. I would... More

My first visit to Antarctic Centre and would recommend it to all as a must do. It is worth taking the full package and doing the Hagglund ride as is great fun. The Antarctic Storm room is another must do especially if you are not used to the extremes of cold weather (they give you coats and overshoes to wear).... More

To be honest the place is well worth a visit but the highlight and MAIN reason to go is for the little blue penguins. They are second chance penguins- i.e. they would never survive in the wild- but they are cared for so well and with so much love from the keepers. It is vital that children (and adults) can... More

My favorite is the Haggland ride - WOW!~! That gets the blood pumping!! The ice experience also lots of fun and the penguins are adorable. The behind the scenes gave the kids an opportunity to hold a penguin which was amazing. The theatre experiences great and the gift shop had lots on offer at very reasonable prices. The cafe food... We had a ball at the Centre. Lovely to watch the Penguins. Spent time in the Antarctic Storm room was scary but an experience I am glad I didn't miss. Slid down the ice slide over the Igloo. Beware - wet cold bottom but do it anyway. Also took a ride in the Antarctic Vehicle was very bumpy but excellent... More

We lived in New Zealand in Christchurch for 3 years but never visited until the last month of our stay. Well worth the effort and somewhere local to take any visitors

Easy access well sign posted and Intersting for all age groups plus the bonus of adventure with the rides, live blue penguins with a feeding time and questions. Great hands on for smaller children well placed interactive boards . Something for everyone rain or shine .

It is absolutely fantastic place to be and learn about the Antarctic wildlife and the life of the scientists that go there. There are different experiences set up like an Antarctic storm room, where you can get a taste of just how cold it can get. There are 4D movies included and it is great fun. This place is only... My partner and I visited here yesterday. They must have updated their exhibits since all the bad reviews because everything seemed very up to scratch, clean tidy an professional. Staff were very helpful. The only possible downer would be that the 'Antarctic storm' experience wasn't as strong as one would think but then if it was people would probably fall... More

Thanks for the great review. Yes, we do have an on-going attraction development programme in place and have upgraded, added and refurbished many exhibits and activities since Dec 2013. This development work is continuing, as it's extremely important to us to ensure our visitor experience is always a really great one! More

Since most attractions seem to be getting pretty pricy for a family, you may be tempted to skip this one but DON'T! The ride in the vehicle and 4D shows are fun so I highly recommend not skimping. Favorite part for me was being literally inches from the tiny penguins. The scientific stuff was really well presented.
