Venture out on to 'the ice' from Scott Base to play in 'Antarctica' the snow & ice experience and survive an Antarctic storm! How long can you hold your hand in the icy Antarctic water? Hang out with Little Blue Penguins, buckle up for the famously exciting Hagglund ride, take an awesome simulated 4D Antarctic cruise, watch Happy Feet 4D, then watch a stunning movie on a MASSIVE screen! This is definitely an attraction and maybe a bit pricey but fun and as close to Antarctica as I will ever get. We enjoyed the Haggland ride, the snow storm and the movie. Especially enjoyed watching the little blue penguins.

the place is literally next to the airport and it's nice to take 2 hours before you flight to take a visit. take a look of what life is like in Antarctica, watch some great film and live photos from that continent and watch them feed the super-cute-and-cuddly penguins!

Our family of 4 (2 teenage boys 13 & 16) had been told by friends that this was a must-do when we visited Chch. Unfortunately it was a rushed visit due to time restraints and you really need 3 or more hours to see it properly. My overall impression, as a family with teenage sons, is that it is better... More

Just get yourself to the airport a little early, check in your bags and then walk to the antarctic centre. Penguins are cute and all disabled in some way and the feeding is good fun to watch. There are also other fun activities such as the arctic storm simulation, 4D happy feet and a ride outside.

This place offers the best place to see New Zealand breed rescued penguins. They have some deformity so they have been rescued and put there like their natural habitat. Its walkable from Chirstchurch International airport.

This is a really fun place to visit. We spent a good 3 hours or so here and our 4 and 7 year olds really enjoyed it. The Hagglund ride is great fun and we loved the Antarctic storm experience. (Even though they lend you a coat and shoe covers, I recommend that you wear long pants and long sleeves... More

It's said that Christchurch is the gateway to Antarctica as the New Zealand base is served from there so we were keen to have a look. Unfortunately we only had a couple of hours and we are people who like to read everything so we had to skip some of the more detailed exhibits. However, it was a good balance... More

There was plenty to enjoy about the antartic center but could be so much more or could have charged less. First impressions were not great when we had to pay for parking with no refund up purchasing a ticket. Highlights would be haglund ride and the penguins with storm room failing to be very stormy or cold. Has potential to... More

The International Antarctic centre is an amazing experience and if you have only one day, this is my first recommendation. It has a great 4d show showing the unique landscape of this continent with wind chill effects and (cold!) water sprays. Definitely a must do for the kids. They have blue penguin enclosures showing you a-day-in-the-life sort of thing. You'll... More

Generally our knowledge of Antartica is limited. A trip here will inspire and educate. The largest coninent on earth and protected by so many accords it should coninue to provide ground breaking knowledge. Much more than a tourist attraction. There is something for everyone. We spent much longer here than we imagined that we would. Experience an Antarctic storm in... More
