Owner description: It's the ultimate Antarctic adventure! Experience the dramatic seasonal lighting in the four seasons of Antarctica show where it 'snows' every 6 minutes. Venture out on to 'the ice' from Scott Base to play in 'Antarctica' the snow & ice experience and survive an Antarctic storm! How long can you hold your hand in the icy Antarctic water? Hang out with Little Blue Penguins, buckle up for the famously exciting Hagglund ride, take an awesome simulated 4D Antarctic cruise, watch Happy Feet 4D, then watch a stunning movie on a MASSIVE screen! It's the closest you'll get to Antarctica without mounting your own expedition!

Take the whole day to enjoy the International Antarctic Centre! You'll love the 4D movies, visiting the little blue penguins and getting to know their characters, experience a snow storm, and so much more! Many hands-on displays, enjoyable for kids AND adults!!

You could spend HOURS here. We had the full admission. The haggalund rides are made even more exciting due to the drivers sense of humour. (this made the day for me) Cafe is well priced and tasty. Penguins are adorable - look out for marty! Great attraction! Everyone will enjoy this

There are a couple of exhibits that are fine but there are two problems. There seems to be no allowance for deaf people with hearing aids. Some sound tracks blare out others are inaudible. Secondly we went when several tours were also going through. Having waited to experience the snow storm a tour group were hustled in and we were... More

I visited this place in September 2009 during my snow trip to Mt Hutt. This is definately a place to visit. If you ever wanted go to the Antartic this is the place to start with. Loved the little pinguins and the storm simulator is a must do. Wonderful place and I would come back one day.

My friends and I used this as a time-filler for our last day in Christchurch. It's well presented with many interesting exhibits. There's a free shuttle bus from downtown. On the return journey I took the driver dropped guests at their hotels by making slight detours. This consideration was greatly appreciated. The Hagland ride costs extra but is worth doing.... More

Ideal for a morning or afternoon visit prior to a flight out of Christchurch, as it is located by the airport. Excellent audiovisual presentations , good explanations of geology and marine biology, as well as the early history of the explorations. We enjoyed the simulated Antarctic storm and the feeding of the rescued blue penguins.

one of the reasons we went to the Antarctic centre was for the penguins - we paid extra to go behind the scenes, which was well worth it and you see the baby penguins and sick bay. The rest of the centre was absolutely fantastic and you learnt things about the Antarctic that we didn't know about. Well worth a... More
