One of Wellington's treasures; on a sunny day it's beautiful and even on a rainy day it's still beautiful.

The golden sandy beach is well worth a visit at any time of the year although it is at its best, and busiest, during summer. Don't leave your visit to late in the day as some hills to the west of the bay will hide the sun later in the day. An excellent café across the road and a toilet... More

Arguably the best beach in Wellington. Nice soft sand, awesome color of the water and not over crowded with people like Oriental Bay. Nice place to hang out with friends or family or just with your partner.

This is the best beach in Wellington as it is often sheltered from the wind and gets more sun. It's fairly small and is very busy in summer. Certainly not stunning like the beaches in other parts of New Zealand though (e.g. Abel Tasman). The nice cafe is a bonus.

Driving around the bays, we stopped here on an amazing summers day. The beach was quiet. Perfect place to go for a walk, picnic, play in the sand and swim in the sea. The views were amazing, very peaceful.

You must have a car to get here as it's out of the way. This is half way during wonderful coastal drive from Wellington around the coast. There is a good cafe which serves quick meals. A good place to park the car & go for a walk along the beach. Small quirkily beachside homes make this an interesting drive.

Wellington has beaches of all types but none like Scorching Bay. Here families, young and old residents, and travellers from all over congregate in a sheltered bay with shallow safe swimming. On hot summer days, its a favourite spot for picnics or a latte from the Scorch-a-Rama café

This is a nice bay, but not stunning by New Zealand standards. The Scorch-o-rama cafe is possibly the main attraction on the strip, where many of the cast of the Hobbit trilogy used to come for a coffee or a quick lunch in between shooting.
