Nice beach

Very accessible beach area although it can be very busy. There is a cafe which sells amazing ice cream with lots of flavours to choose from.

The best thing about Oriental Bay is the long, flat, wide footpath that is used by joggers, cylists, walkers, skaters etc. A rare commodity in the hilly city of Wellington. There is a cute little beach which has life guards in the summer and often a game of beach vollyball going on. If you want the best gelato go to... More

We hired a 4 seater bike and pedalled around the bay and it was just brilliant. Lots of people enjoying swimming on the beach. Beautiful spot.

Nice little beach close to the city. Plenty of parking, some playground areas for the kids. Only a couple of cafés, luckily there'll all pretty good. When her on a sunny day be sure to visit the life guards and top up with free SPF 50 lotion!

Nice place to have a swim and sit in the sun. However, very little options for sitting in the shade... All seats were in the sun except one under some trees by the kids playground, which was understandably taken by some parents. Only two cafe options by the bay, and only saw one ice cream shop.

I defy anyone to walk along Oriental parade and look up the hill to the beautiful houses and then out across the bay and not want to immediately emmigrate to Wellington! We chickened out but have amazing memories!

One thing worth doing while in Wellington is to take a walk around Oriental bay in the evening, it seems almost half of Wellington must do this... Nice views back to the city, and a few cafes and bars sprinkled amongst the houses
