One of Wellington's many nooks that has nice places to sit and eat your lunch! It often has events or promotions in the square as well as the odd protester! It's also a great way to get to/from the waterfront.

During the day a great place for lunch also some neat view points of the harbour. Not so cool at night time and you need to be aware of skateboards and some of the people congretating. Stick to the day time

The 'fern ball' suspended in air is pretty amazing to see in this square, they light it up at night - it's quite romantic. Handy spot on a sunny day to let the kids run free and eat a packed lunch.

Its capability to host a large variety of events and proximity to the city gallery, library and MFC.

Search for 'Streets of the City - for Wellingtonians' and you will find the verse that refers to the wonders of Civic Square.

While the weather was keeping Civic Square virtually empty during my visit, it is still an impressive place, being surrounded by notable Wellington buildings on 3 sides and the unique City to Sea Bridge on the 4th. Even if there are no events in the Square, it is still an interesting place to visit.

nice open space near waterfront, a bit cold this time of year

I visited during the Xmas parade and the atmosphere was phenomenal. Lots of live music and entertainment - all free of charge.
