Especially Eastbourne, albeit that the local businesses seem to be in the land of nod. Apart from a hard working fish n chip shop( which could do with a good clean) the rest of the place is certainly languid Having said that the beach is superb ......

was there last weekend ... was told there is a Wahine memorial there (the mast), so made a beeline for that as it was an epic storm which created such sadness in NZ History. Great to see this memorial here and its simply done which shows class. Well done Eastbourne.

Some people prefer a pebbled beach and for those that do you will find a well kept clean beach with lots to do along its promenade complete with bandstand and one of the finest victorian piers in the country. Excellent value from the seafood stall next to the pier on the eastern side, with decent coffee and good service. Eastbourne... More

Loved the seafront and the stroll along the prom. Beach is well kept and on the hot sunny day that I went it was very busy and a delight to see people enjoying themselves. The pier is nice but being spoilt by my home town having three ;-) its just another seaside pier. It is well kept and in better... More

On our last day on NZ we strolled along Eastbourne & Days Bay beaches. With great views across the bay we picked up lots of shells and enjoyed the sunshine. Whilst there we looked how locals dived for Paua shells. Afterwards we enjoyed lunch at the Days Bay Pavillion overlooking the bay.

This is a great beach to visit and my kids go there on a school picnic every second year and also enjoy the summer pool (open Labour Weekend in October to Easter) and the playground. There's plenty of trees for shelter too as it gets very hot at times in summer.

Eastbourne is about 30 minutes drive around the coastline from Wellington. The drive itself is lovely as there are great views of the harbour and coastline. Eastbourne and also the nearby Days Bay, has a lovely relaxing sea side feel and yet it is so close to the buzzing capital. At Eastbourne there is a lovely walk along the sea... More

Township, jetty and beach make Eastbourne a tempting getaway experience. An enticing destination, so totally unlike its English namesake! Despite a similar beach frontage, Wellington's "Eastbourne" is literally "a breath of fresh air", approached by a panoramic drive around the neighbouring "Eastern Bays". Special mention must also be made of nearby "Day's Bay" with its safe beach, jetty, amateur fishermen,... More

I had to be in Wellington for a conference - but staying in Eastbourne made it a much better experience than being in a boring Wellington Hotel room. We did have stunning weather - and the ferry trip to the city every day was great (although a bit of a pain to get home late at night). The local pub... More

My walking route - Days Bay Homestay to the village, a different experience almost every day. The sand and gravel on this beach alternate with different winds & tides, providing very big changes in both environment and surface. It is sometimes sandy enough to use my Blokart or walk in bare feet, othertimes a bit stony. High tide or stoney... More
