Days Bay is so nice that it should be kept as a secret. Wonderful beach for kids to play and adults to enjoy the view of the capital far far away. Ferry ride is availabe to the CBD if suddenly you need to have a little adventure. Great bushwalks on the hills. Nice gallery, amazing Chocolate Days Cafe and lots... More

On such a brilliant sunny winters day - with all the cafe's full and busy we jumped aboard the Day's Bay ferry service. Great value for money and something that every local should do. Many locals haven't done this trip so we found out later. Pleasant, a great way to spend a lazy hour and to see some of Wellington... More

We went in early June and the boat trip was fun for the little people and we could have planned our trip better but we essentially caught the boat over, grabbed a coffee and then headed back. The boat trip is lovely on a good day and next time I think we will actually have a meal or go for... More

We purchased a Grab One ferry deal and too the ferry across. Not too much to see on the other side just a couple of artie shops, so we walked and looked and the houses built into the cliff. we actually got bored and rather than wait for the ferry back took the bus which took us though parts of... i used to live nearby, and enjoy walking along the bays. Days Bay is the usual place for most people to start from, there are beach and bush walks starting from here. its got a beach-getaway feel so close to the city. for a few hours out, there's a park area to meet with your whole family group or school... Grab the ferry in Wellington or take the drive around through Lower Hutt and Wainuiomata. Great little beach and dock...I had to get a "Jelly Tip" at Days Bay Pavilion, set in the park and just have a wonderful and relaxing afternoon at the beach looking across the bay at Wellington.

We stayed a week in a rented apartment. What a fantastic place. We commuted by ferry to events in Wellington, hung out at the excellent local cafe, Chocolate Dayz (see my review), visited local galleries and also the delightful next village, Eastbourne. We also went to the end of the road and walked the flat gravel road around the bays... More

We rented two bikes and rode to the Pencarrow Lighthouse. Beautiful scenery along the way with tons upon tons of paua shells along the way. We found many gorgeous ones of all sizes.

If you are visting Wellngton you just have to pop over to Days Bay on the Ferry. Grab a pizza at the Pavilion, brunch at Chocolate Dayz or a classy meal/drink at the Cobar. You want be dissapointed.
