Definitely a place many people go on a good sunny day to soak up the rays and to have a dip in the sea. The best way to enjoy this is on a sunny Wellington day with a group of friends, bring your BBQ etc and enjoy an afternoon/evening picnic. There is plenty of field space for the younger ones... A nice harbour ferry ride to Days Bay, morning tea then maybe walk to nearby Eastbourne. Walk or bus back to the ferry and back to Wellington. A nice few hours out.

This is a lovely beach, with a park and cafe across the road. It is accessible by East-West Ferry, taking you on a trip across the harbor, or by a much longer bus ride, as well as private car, of course. The views as you travel by whatever means are fantastic. Try to pick a day without too much wind... More

We had a week of Wellington winds except on the day we took the ferry from Queens Wharf to Somes Island then onto Days Bay. We walked to Eastbourne and the returned back to Courteney Place by bus. Wellington harbour is exceptionally beautiful on such a day. A thoroughly recommended day out.

We took the ferry to Days Bay and then walked around to Eastbourne. Despite it being a showery, blustery day we enjoyed our visit. We could only imagine how much better it would have been if the sun was shining. Days Bay has a lovely jetty with a pavillion close by that houses a cafe. We would certainly love to... More

Ferry ride is availabe to the CBD if suddenly you need to have a little adventure. Great bushwalks on the hills. Nice gallery, amazing Chocolate Days Cafe and lots... More

On such a brilliant sunny winters day - with all the cafe's full and busy we jumped aboard the Day's Bay ferry service. Great value for money and something that every local should do. Many locals haven't done this trip so we found out later. Pleasant, a great way to spend a lazy hour and to see some of Wellington... More
