A quick drive down here exploring the sights which was well worth the visit. We stopped off at the day's bay pavilion for lunch. After a walk along the bay amazing for picnics and a spot of swimming

Picnic in parks, bushwalks, duckpond, calm swimming beach and sandy sunfilled summer days. Bring the frisbee, swing ball and tennis rackets!!

This is a nice bay to visit if you want to try something a bit more secluded when in Wellington. I think you can get the ferry over but we always drive via petone. Nice walking area with a good coffee shop and little park for the kids.

Drive there or take the ferry from Wellington city. Sometimes the ferry goes via Somes Island and Seatoun too, so you get a nice view of the coastline from the sea and all included in your fare! Once you get there the Pavilion is directly over the road from the wharf and has good food, ice creams, outdoor seating and... More

Definitely a place many people go on a good sunny day to soak up the rays and to have a dip in the sea. The best way to enjoy this is on a sunny Wellington day with a group of friends, bring your BBQ etc and enjoy an afternoon/evening picnic. There is plenty of field space for the younger ones... A nice harbour ferry ride to Days Bay, morning tea then maybe walk to nearby Eastbourne. Walk or bus back to the ferry and back to Wellington. A nice few hours out.

This is a lovely beach, with a park and cafe across the road. It is accessible by East-West Ferry, taking you on a trip across the harbor, or by a much longer bus ride, as well as private car, of course. The views as you travel by whatever means are fantastic. Try to pick a day without too much wind... More

We had a week of Wellington winds except on the day we took the ferry from Queens Wharf to Somes Island then onto Days Bay. We walked to Eastbourne and the returned back to Courteney Place by bus. Wellington harbour is exceptionally beautiful on such a day. A thoroughly recommended day out.
