Owner description: Be embraced by the beauty of this gorgeous wooden cathedral - still sacred, welcoming to all, in the heart of Wellington's heritage precinct. Breathtakingly beautiful - Wellington's famous Old St Paul's, constructed entirely of native timbers, is one of New Zealand's greatest heritage places. Experience the wonderful and sometimes quirky stories of this former cathedral church, its historic location and its people. Gaze at Old St Paul's unique colonial architecture, admire its exquisite embroidered furnishings and be awed by the colours of its beautiful stained glass windows. It is a magnificent example of timber Gothic Revival architecture. The site where Old St Paul's stands was formerly part of Pipitea Pa. For almost 100 years, Old St Paul's served as the parish church of Thorndon and the Anglican Cathedral of Wellington. It remains a place of spiritual significance to many and also has become a popular venue for a wide variety of cultural events.

This is a beautiful old wooden building with an incredible atmosphere. You can even hire it if you have an event such as a baby naming or a wedding coming up. Just stand and absorb the history.

Another review gave me my title, when the person said how this church is a national treasure. It is, and I'm privileged to have attended my friends wedding there. If you like historic buildings and beautiful churches, this is a must see. Just check there is no wedding on first!

Upon entering the church, the tour guide convinced us and our tour guide, to take the time and Learn more about the history. Glad we took the time and anyone with Marines in their family might be interested too. Relatively near to the Beehive.

Only there for fifteen minutes, just before closing time, but loved it. Staff friendly and helpful. Beautiful woodwork. Shame it no longer runs full church services any more - just special occasions like funerals and weddings.

This historic church is a great example of a gothic-style church, made completely from wood. The interior is impressive with its wood ceiling, buttress spans, and stained glass. Whilst now owned by the NZ government, the church can be hired for a variety of religious ceremonies. Open to the public, this national treasure is served well by a team of... More
