Another way to spend a whole day, just walking around taking in all the plants, flowers and views. Catch the cable tram up there and visit it's museum at the top, then have a look in the observatory. Wander through the various gardens and perhaps have a picnic or some food and beverage in the rose garden cafe. There is... More

Wow, what a surprise. Getting off the cable car a short walk to walk down through the beautiful gardens. So many sections. Unique trees and plants, also beautiful birds. It was springtime so the smells of the flowers were fantastic. It had just stopped raining and the sun came out.there is a native forest, Australian garden, succulents and trees from... More

The gardens take a whole hillside and considerable area at the bottom. Thousands of different varieties of plants, trees, etc., and many, many different groupings together of plants, trees, etc. into different categories/themes. The Succulents and Rose Gardens were superb, and the Greenhouse was beautiful. Suggest getting the Cable Car up to the top of the hill, and then waking down... More

The Botanic Gardens are a peaceful oasis minutes away from Lambton Quay via the Cable Car. The area is well signposted and wheelchair accessible routes highlighted on maps situated throughout the gardens or collected from the Cable car station. Gardens vary from formal rose beds to rhododendron dells and camellia valleys. There are several children's play areas, places to sit... More

Because the cable car, which I took to and from, lands one at the back entrance and I was pressed for time, I saw only about a quarter of the gardens and didn't get to the famous roses and conservatory. That said, I enjoyed what I saw, especially the Australian section featuring trees, bushes and other plants in an apparently... More

The gardens are very well laid out with views over Wellington. It is best accessed via the cable car, you can then walk around the gardens and down to the city. The gardens are divided into themed areas, all of which are interesting at the right time of year.

There is nothing special about these gardens but they are a lovely contrast to the rush of the capital city. Within walking distance of the main street. There are a number of different walks that you can do including spring flowers, rose gardens, duck pond, Australian garden, old fashion children's playground and a nice cafe. You can spend as little... More

Wellington's Botanic Gardens remain a credit to the city. They amble up hill and down dale over a range of typically Wellingtonian landscapes and across a variety of plant types. The bonus is the tearooms there are better than average Botanic Gardens tearooms around the world. The gardens are a treat at the end of the Cable Car ride, though... More

What a great walk through the lush greenery of the Botanic Gardens. Finished off with a sit down at the Treehouse to relax our legs a little before the big walk back up the hill. Would be an excellent place for a picnic. Some great views are up near the observatory.
