We love botanical gardens anywhere...they are all so different according to the season. Have visited this one several times in different seasons...love the azaleas. Take the cable car up and walk back through the gardens. Wear co fortable walking she as it is hilly. Forget it if it's raining...not a good time to visit.

Good gardens with the highlight being the rose garden at the bottom next to the excellent cafe. Perfect route for a return to the city from the cable car. Various routes to choose from including a ride down on a tractor trailer. Some parts are impressive others are just like any other gardens. Sunshine and blue skies do help. All... More

Walk here. Do it. Take the tram up. Find the big cylindrical bush/tree at the top. Take your shoes off and climb up the middle. Sit on top with a picnic, looking over Wellington, and lay back as the branches cradle you for a comfortable rest in the sun above everyone coming into the gardens. The botanic gardens are full... A few steps from the top of the funicular from the centre of town, the Botanic Gardens covers a large area with a variety of distinct sections for different types of native and exotic plants. You can wander round at your leisure - and it's free! At weekends, enthusiastic volunteers patrol the gardens offering a wealth of information and a... More

I've been to the gardens several times, and I am always amazed at their changing beauty. From the spectacular views of the harbour to the hikes and seasonal flowers, they do not disappoint.

We rode the cable car up and immediately saw great views of the ocean and the city when we arrived. It was 70 degrees, sunny and not windy so the weather was perfect. We hiked on the various trails at the gardens and saw many beautiful flowers and plants throughout. The rose garden was one of my favorite places. After... More

Beautiful botanical garden, but not for the faint hearted as you walk up and down steep sidewalks. But well worth it as it is beautiful.
