you can visit anytime after all gardens need rain and there is a great tearoom/restaurant to shelter from the rain and look at the indoor displays if you have the chance to visit in different seasons you can see the changes located high above the city you wouldnt know you were in a capital

Lovely walk, well signed. Beautiful gardens set on a steep hillside. Good playpark for the kids too!

This garden is wonderful because it has nature trails that I enjoyed walking along for a walk. It also has beautiful planted gardens. The tulip garden is a must see in the spring and summer. The rose garden is beautiful as well and we enjoyed eating at the cafe in the rose garden on sunny afternoons.

After ascending the hill via the cable car, enjoy a wonderful walk through the botanic garden, back to the city. There's a great park for children in the middle and if the tulips are out prepare your senses for a colourful treat. If you live and work in Wellington, it's a great place for a stroll at lunchtime.

A stroll up into the botanic gardens at night is a treat - and then up along the path, there are glow worms! So cool! Imagine that - glow worms inner city on short bush walk that is like a picture post card of some of our hugest rainforests!

either get there by cable car; walk or car - this is a great place to visit. Wonderful walks - with the rose garden always a highlight - and at the right time of the year - the tulips, which are a stunning display.

Once you reach the top via the cable car, pick up a map of the gardens and wander to the observatory and lookouts and then you can pick your path (all colour coded) back to the city, you can choose the easy and time. We took the long way back which was great as it was protected from the wind.... More

Take the cable car from Wellington's main street, Lambton Quay. It runs up a steep hill to Kelburn. From there walk down the hill to the Botanic Gardens, walking through the gardens as you go. Be sure to visit the rose garden and the huge glass house. Best month is October for the tulip gardens. After wandering through, walk out... More

After taking the cable car up, we wandered down through the Botanical Gardens with our children. At the top is an observatory, cable car museum, as well as a great view across Wellington Harbour. There are several paths through the gardens, laid out with different coloured lines that are marked along the way that each guide you through different varieties... More

Myself, my husband and our almost three-year-old had an excellent morning at the Botanic Gardens on a recent trip to Wellington. We caught the cable car up and proceeded to follow the marked track to the playground. Our son was in heaven. The large playground caters for all ages and all the children were having a great time. When we... More
