These gardens are so big you can feel as isolated as you like. Beautiful huge trees both planted and original. The space retained for the gardens is big and very varied making for great urban walking - much of it uphill! Was pleased to happen on a practicing bagpiper of considerable talent on Sunday morning.

We went here for my son's birthday and enjoyed walking around the paths, taking in the views of Wellington and seeing the different trees. It is very steep, so bring walking shoes, but it is also a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon. You can take the cable car up from Willis Street and then spend as long as... More

Walked in by a different route (apparently). Signage was appalling. Even when we did find a sign and followed it, at the next intersection there was no sign! Apparently herbs had recently been stolen.

I visited the garden in the 'winter' and it was colourful and beautiful. Beautifully attended. Spent a good two hours walking around with my family. Also used the gardens to access the city centre on later occasions.

There's a lot to see at the botanical gardens. First of all, it is close to the city center, but the path to access it is steep. You can take the cable car if that is a problem for you. From bottom to top, you will find the peace garden, which is a symbol of New Zealand engagement against nuclear... More

I took the cable car up to the top and then rambled down. Gorgeous walk through gardens and old cemetery!
