It was freezing and rainy during our visit and we still enjoyed ourselves immensely. There is a playground with a swing set! The different gardens and plants are quite clearly delineated. The pamphlets were helpful. Only sad that the cafe closed by the time we got there.

Begonia house with all the tropical plants is amazing; makes me feel home-sick for the tropics. Great playground for children, and great variety of planting around the gardens all situated on a meandering slope. Even an original Henry Moore sculpture!

A lovely garden with heaps of different plan varieties, my favourite was the succulent garden and duck pond.

A free, no-fuss wander in a Botanic Garden is time usually well-spent anywhere in the world and this is certainly true in delightful Wellington. These winding, hilly gardens are a credit to the city and are highly recommended. We took the short (but reasonably priced and unique) historic Cable Car from the city up to the gardens, and then walked... More

Unfortunately, we visited in winter, so the gardens were clearly not at their picturesque best, but still lovely. Made us want to visit in the springtime when they must be absolutely breathtaking. We could see the promise of particularly the rose garden and hydrangea section; and the floral beds were clearly being readied for the new season. A gorgeous walk... More

Beautiful gardens - and lots of labels, so you knew what you were looking at - not always the case in such places! We struck a lovely sunny day and thoroughly enjoyed wandering around. We "found" the observatory, the Krupp gun and the cafe, which all added to the enjoyment.

The gardens itself is huge, you can spend hours walking up the mountain, strolling through the parks. I found this place to be one of my favorite sites in all of Wellington and would recommended it to everyone.
