Caught the cable car up to the top and walked back down into town via the Botanic Gardens. Wow, the gardens are beautiful, well set out, hydrangeas and roses in full bloom, glorious trees with information plaques (but not on all of them - would have liked to have seen more). We loved these gardens. Not only are the areas well maintained, but it feels like a jungle adventure, there are often art-pieces on display, and you get a good workout just by browsing. The facilities are also clean and functional. Plan to spend a few hours here and bring a good camera.

We took the tram up to the top and stopped to get a view of Wellington from above. There is also an area dedicated to the history of the tram. It is interesting especially if you are unfamiliar with this type of transport. We then proceeded to walk down through the Botanical gardens. There are many side paths off to... More

Beautifully maintained, views on many levels. Excellent busy but efficient café. Would recommend it.

First of all, this is an amazing place to walk while you are overcoming jet lag... the beauty of the flowers, the scents of everything can keep you alive when you are dragging... It is such a beautiful place and easy to walk the paths of beautiful flowers that are always calming. Return after you are feeling more like yourself,... More

beautiful bush tracks, amazing hydrangeas, gorgeous rose garden and fantastic cafe - though, watch out for the cheeky little birds, they'll come right up and snatch your lunch from your plate or hand.

Catch the cable car up, and follow the well marked route back down into the city. We also popped into the cafe at the Begonia House and were very impressed with the food, drinks and the friendly service.

What a wonderful experience visiting the Botanic Gardens in Wellington. There is such a variety of plants from succulents and cacti to forests, deserts, Australian plants as well as the most beautiful rose garden (Lady Norwood). We spend a lovely afternoon strolling through the garden starting at the very top and working our way down. We only had a couple... More
