It's like a small slice of the country in the city. Beautiful! Lots of slopes and I would say you have to be able bodied to go around as some walks/paths are quite challenging, although don't let that put you off! Some stunning views from the Herb Garden and from the top of the Cable car also. I spent about... More

As I'm sure most people do, we walked down from the top of the cable car through the gardens and a fine walk it was too. Even though the gardens were not at their finest when we were there (April) it was still a very pleasant walk and after all, the cable car has done the hard part. I hope... More

The Botanic Gardens are amazing. Take the cable car and then walk through the gardens to Parliament. Beautiful scenery and views. The gardens are incredible. Don't miss.

The Gardens are a lovely place any time of year and we visited many times when we lived in Wellington. The Lady Norwood Rose Garden is the absolute highlight though. The roses are magnificent in the summer and they are some of the best I've seen anywhere - don't miss it! While there the Picnic Cafe is a great place... More

Up at the Botanic gardens its a great way to let off steam with the kids, especially if its a nice sunny day. Awesome kids playground with flying fox. But it is on a slope so beware little ones toppling down. Cool harbour views form the observatory. Magic rose gardens. We always take the cable car up and walk down... More

I visited this exquisite and highly perfumed rose-garden in November 2013, whilst on a 12-night cruise around New Zealand on RCCL's mega-ship, "Voyager of the Seas." A world-class garden with spectacular and densely-planted, rose gardens overflowing with some of the largest and healthiest roses I have ever seen. This garden is an absolute vision and a dream to experience! Fragrant... More

We were lucky with 3 days of brilliant sunnshine when we visited Wellington. The gardens are stunning and so are the views. We took about 3 hours to stroll round and enjoyed every minute of it. The view of the cricket match below was great from the top of the gardens. The garden was so colourful and had a great... More

OK so I'm a sucker for Botanical gardens. This one is a bit interesting to get to since you can ride the Wellington Cable Car - a cheap and fun ride. At the top is the Cable Car Museum and right next to it is the entrance to the Gardens. There's many fantastic plants here, a nice native exhibit, some... More

Peaceful and beautiful, one of the best places to admire New Zealand varied and magical trees and bushes. Wonderfully kept, a must see for every visitor and a great place to enjoy a walk or, even better, a picnic.
