We visit the Wellington Zoo often. Its been a go too ever since we had our daughter and as she grows there is increasingly more for her to enjoy. The variety of monkeys is fab, the Australia 'neighbours; area allows you to get up close to animals. The roar of the lions and screech of baboons always in the air.... More

A great 1/2 day out, could have happily spent longer there. Really wanted the Close Encounter with Cheetahs for my bucket list but not available on the 1 day we were able to go to zoo. Goes from bottom to top of a hill with quirky touches like a dog lead fly-curtain in the Kiwi house and cool sculptures dotted... More

I took my 9 month old son even though he is slightly to young I thought he would enjoy it anyway. What a great time we had! We were so fortunate to be in the right spot at the right time with most of the animals and Lucas loved every minute of it, especially the little monkeys behind the glass... More

Our second trip to Wellington Zoo - the weather perfect, a Monday during term time, so lovely and quiet. We saw many more animals this time...they were all out and about. We had missed the meerkats last time, so were delighted to find them! We saw the kiwis, the Tasmanian devil (fast asleep on its back!) went in to the... More

Best time we had while in Wellington- the kids just loved the laid- back nature of the place. The area where the kangaroos are is not fenced so you can stand right next to them!! Cool walk though the Aussie animal section too... totally free roaming... very unusual and appreciated by animals and people alike. Great zoo.

We visit the Wellington Zoo regularly, because there is always something fresh and different. Today we saw the iconic Blue Penguins in their new enclosure swimming right up to the glass. The staff is always friendly, the whole place is always tidy and the animals are presented in accessible way that looks like their natural habitat. It is always a... More

The Wellington Zoo was a pleasant surprise. For a small zoo, it has several unusual animals, like the Malayan Sun Bear, tuatara, Kiwi birds, Tasmanian devil, caracals (with their enormous ears) and more. The zoo's conservation efforts are impressive. A city bus brings you right to the entrance. It is built on a hill, so be sure to wear comfortable... More

What a letdown! I don't know if I should have expected more in the capital city of New Zealand, but this was small, and only a few animals exhibits and settings. The layout is easy, as one takes a circular path throughout and around the zoo. There is a cafe on site, and a few picnic tables with covering. If... More

Wellington is not a huge city, but it is the country's capitol, so I must admit that I was a bit disappointed when I visited the zoo. It's sprawling, sparse, and lots of it is closed or under construction. There isn't much to see here that you haven't seen lots of other places and it is not the most welcoming... More
