this zoo is not large by most standards but it is well presented and maintained. The enclosures are nicely presented and it does not have that zoo 'cage' feel about it. The staff were outstanding, very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. It was great to see some of the animals out and about with their keepers. The nest was amazing -... More

Last time I was at the Wellington Zoo was thirty years ago and it was not a very nice place to be. However I was really pleasantly surprised on its progress and attractiveness with its customers. It wasn't a nice day to go however the exhibits made the difference and I loved the ability to get up and personal with... More

The zoo is definitely not the big by any standards. A few animals to look at, but a nice walk with the family. The facilities here are very nice. Just wish they had more animals and land, but this would be hard to find so close to the city.

Don't miss at least 2 or 3 talks.A Kiwi Talk was taking place in the beginning of afternoon for us. You won't really see Kiwis, they are in a dark place, so you'll most likely see their shadows, but still cool :)

Me and my boyfriend spent almost a full day at the zoo today, despite it being really cold and rainy. In other words - we had a great time! It's not the largest zoo, but they have lots of animals to see, with a focus on animals from Australasia. There are lots of different animal talks/shows to go and listen... More

I booked a zoo day for my grandsons during their Christmas school holidays in January while I was over from the UK. They had a great time. Awesome is how they described it. Thanks for a great day out.

I recently gave my daughter a meerkat encounter as a 24th birthday present. It was a huge hit with her, and her friend. The meerkats were delightful and very friendly, and the keeper was very informative and helpful. the weather wasn't great, but we all had a wonderful time. Highly recommended and worth every cent.

Easily reachable by bus from the city centre. Fun day out if you have time to kill in Wellington. Zoo is well laid out and easy to walk around. Probably not enough to make you want to go back twice but certainly a good attraction to add to your list for Wellington.

We had a wonderful day at the zoo last week - goes to show that midwinter is as good a time to visit Wellington Zoo as any! A particular highlight was seeing the Tasmanian devils, who seemed to be very happy, healthy and full of life. I've never had such a good opportunity to see them both at rest and... More

The Wellington zoo may never match it with the likes of Singapore or San Diego but it is still worth a look. Funding is always the issue for smaller zoos such as this but I guess they giving it their best shot and the place has improved markedly over the years.
