Fantastic zoo

Red pandas and chimpanzees were the highlight, and the zoo is easily accessible by bus. Definitely recommended if you're in the city!

So many animals too see and very interesting and informative talks by the zoo staff. A great chance to get up close to so many animals. The Chimps were my favorite, so entertaining could of sat and watched them all day :)

For such a small zoo, there is a lot going on. Non-stop "animal talks" to get a closer look at things. Super friendly staff and a kick butt cafe on the side.

This is the best small zoo we've been to. The led interactions are great; watching the staff feed / play with monkeys, a chance to feed giraffes and the presentations at the animal hospital all create a connection between the animals and the visitors. A great mix of the usual suspect animals with those that are slightly different. The zoo... More

The Zoo had a lot of information about local birds and mammals, along with those from neighboring countries. The Veterinary staff were working on a Tasmanian Devil that was having health issues the day we were there. We were able to watch them work on her as they diagnosed and then treated her problem. Later, we happened to be walking... More

My kids and I had a terrific time at Wellington Zoo today! From the moment we arrived, until we left, we had amazing animal encounters. The monkeys were hilarious and very active, the gibbons were showing off, there was a giraffe within a metre of us (so on the platform we were face-to-face) and the chimps were noisy and active.... I took my 70 yr old dad their when we had a couple of days holiday. It was going well and we were enjoying it until we came across an animal with what looked like rather a large weeping wound.. This was enough to put me off looking anymore and we left. I felt that the animals wren't being cared... More

The Wellington Zoo is not the biggest but it is worth a visit. The animal feeding's and information sessions are very educational. If your not a fan of hills, prepare yourself! Overall this is a good way to spend a day.
