Going to Newtown to the Wellington Zoo, you expect to be heading out of the city into the remote part of Wellington, when suddenly right there in the Newtown neighbourhood is the zoo! It is the strangest feeling seeing a convenience (dairy) store across the road, bus stop at the door, and a park and playground alongside with houses close... More

A wonderful zoo with very friendly staff and a wide variety of animals (and activities) to keep the children entertained. There is a broad selection of animals from different continents including kangaroos, cheetahs, and even lions. It is a large zoo, so it is easily to lose one's way (they have maps, but it doesn't make a difference if you... More

I visit the zoo in any city I visit. This was by far the most interactive zoo I've visited. You can walk in the kangaroo exhibit an walk right up to them. There are different types of shows going on all day. You can make it to all of them as they are all set up fairly close to the... More

Wow, what a great place to go. Our whole family has gone a dozen times in the last two years and we love it. Thee is pushchair access to everything, lots of places to simply sit and enjoy the view, ample parking, and all the facilities you could need. On our last visit we patted an Emu, discovered a Kiwi... I booked a close encounter with a giraffe. The whole experience was one of the best I've had in NZ. It costs $95 and for that you get to spend around half an hour with the zoo keeper up close and personal with the zoos two beautiful giraffes. I know half an hour doesn't sound like a lot but it... Describing itself as the best little zoo in the world, Wellington Zoo is very much concerned with animal welfare and conservation. It currently has around 500 animals, and every effort is made to provide an environment consistent, as far as practicable, with their natural habitat. Many of the larger animals have spacious compounds consisting of trees, shrubs, rocks etc, providing... More

We've been to this zoo several times and it is always excellent. The zoo grounds are well maintained and all the animals seem happy and are kept in good condition. It's not a big zoo but they have a lot of animals. The last time we were there we also did a "Cheetah Encounter" which was wonderful...quite expensive but well... More

Organised and easy to get around. Take extra clothing as the weather can get cold and wet. Good pair of walking shoes is highly recommended. Enjoy the zoo lander adventure.

Just yesterday, we visited the zoo, and despite the rain and wind, we loved it, better than Perth zoo in Australia it was a little smaller, but every 30 mins on their was a talk on the trail, we heard about the cockatoo and touched it, we watched the chimps being feed, my kids feed the giraffe and watched a...
