You could spend all day in this place and not get bored. There is so much to see. Really well run and totally free. What more could you want.

Great museum for all ages including small children and free! Modern and interactive with a children's discovery bit (our 2 year old loved it). We could have spent all day but only had a few hours. Nice cafe too.
you need to visit this a couple of times to take it all in and there are always rainy days in wellington to do so has a great coffee lounge for snacks or lunch really get you to exlore the mouri culturs and natural history of new zealand
There was not a lot of content. There was however, a lot of signwritten boards on walls.
I expected to see antiques and collectables. This is more of a designer museum with large open spaces ( very, very open). The large treaty of waitangi areas summed up the whole place as a very PC and consultant designed waste of space.

Managed to fit in a visit to Te Papa last week to see the Andy Warhol Exhibition. Amazing artwork. Well set out and friendly staff are most helpful. they also have a great shop of Andy Warhol souvenirs. I got a children's board book for my little grandson. His introduction to modern art.
Te Papa is packed with great exhibits...

This museum was very good in educating me about Maori history and culture. Best of all it was FREE! The museum is very large and after exploring the first couple floors of exhibits, it became a little boring. Definitely worth seeing though because it's free and will show you the culture.
Went to see the Warhol exhibition. Gift shop was particularly disappointing. However Te Papa itself is grand and the displays are well thought-out. Went away with better knowledge of NZ history. Would have enjoyed more without the children running around, but it was a Sunday.
This summer there is a Warhol exhibition. The permament exhibition is interesting more for children.
I had heard about Te Papa and tried not to build up expectations about it. When we got there any expectations were far exceeded. It is one of the best Museums I have seen. The exhibits were well laid out and information provided is excellent and easy to understand. A must see for anyone travelling to Wellington!
travelling with a 12 year old, thus went to the sections aimed at kids. She thoroughly enjoyed the (satellite images) map of new zealand that lit up when you walked on it - along with loads of other kids and adults.
