A great museum documenting the history of Wellington and its maritime history, including the Wahene disaster. Great place to spend an hour or 2 with the kids. More

I never expected to be interested in this place but it was really exciting and had amazing hologram based exhibits so you could be transported back in time to early Wellington wharf life and activities. There is an excellent movie of the Wahine tragedy - and the building itself is beautiful. Worth a visit. More

Fascinating stories and visual displays some of which you are encouraged to touch. Convenient from the waterfront and friendly staff. Compactly laid out on three floors, you can easily spend two Interesting hours (or more). More

This is really the museum of Wellington (cf Te Papa which is more widely focused). Terrific insights into early Wellington, and a terrific movie on the 1968 Wahine disaster. I regard this as a 'must do' in Wellington - and walk there, around the waterfront, on a good day. It's a very special Wellington experience. More
