Just down the road from Te Papa and although more dedicated to the sea (hence the name), way better for visitor interaction. a must do

We initially were not going to go to this museum but overcast weather sent us there. This was very interesting particulary the film about the Inter Island Ferry tragedy in 1968. There is plenty to see over three floors of the museum and you can write a note to the city and attach it to a wall inside the museum.... More

I loved this museum, the exhibits are very engaging, especially the spoken ones. It is easy to get around it, and appeals to all ages.

So much to see. So Many displays and so interesting. Loved the Captains cabin and the movie on the sinking of the Wahine- so sad. The gift shop was well stocked, too.

This museum has some excellent displays on the history of Wellington and particularly liked the emotional display about the Wahine ferry disaster and the pre-WW1 strikes. Good interactive activities for children. Best of all its free

With only a couple of hundred years history it is none-the-less an important contribution for those whose ancestors fought the elements to make this the country it is today - a must for visitors and locals

A great little museum with lots to see in a relaxed atmosphere. There were some interesting interactive displays and headphones to listen to in various areas.

After the glories of Te Papa, we were surprised and impressed to find another top-class museum in Wellington. This Museum of Wellington City & Sea was a real little gem featuring quality, inclusive and experiential exhibitions on the history of the area. The displays were entertaining and non-didactic, with unashamed use of dioramas: some museum snobs might find them naff... More
