We did the night tour, which was a great experience. Small group of around 8, with an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. The scale and set up of the reserve is fascinating, and it really felt like the animals were in as close to a natural environment as is possible in the setting, didn't feel like a zoo but a place... Well worth the $17.50 entry, free guided tour and shuttle bus from the cable car (Top lookout). give yourself at least a couple of hours and wear walking shoes, but you'll enjoy it and see the New Zealand before introduced species.

I attended Zealandia on 3rd March 2015. I am a wheelchair user and was attending by myself, so did a bit of research on the website beforehand. It said there was a free shuttle bus once you got off the cable car, and the sanctuary was wheelchair accessible. The shuttle bus is not accessible if you cannot get out of... More

Only about 10 mins drive from downtown Wellington...Zealandia is a haven away from the hustle and bustle of city life and well worth a visit. Ignore the negative reviews..at $17 I think it's an a good price. The walk to the dam is interesting and a round trip is over an hour. The sanctuary provides a free bus service to... More

In the city of Wellington is a wildlife sanctuary with birds and tuatara. It is easy to get to via the Wellington cable car where at the top a free shuttle takes you to the sanctuary. It cost NZ$17.50 which covers you for two days. We went twice. There are free guided tours and you get to see Kaka, Stitchbird,... More

This is a different excursion well worth the shuttle from the top of the cable car and Botanic Gardens. The history of the area is interesting as are the birds and old dam site. Be careful you time your return to the times of the shuttle!

Nice to see bird life so unafraid of people. The baby Tuatara's and Wellington gecko's are worth seeing. The staff were very helpful.

The nightime tour is a brilliant way to see and hear lots of native wildlife that you would be lucky to see and hear elsewhere in NZ. Our tour started just as it was getting dark and the guides took us round telling us about all the various birds and the history of what had happened when various settlers arrived... More

A trust operates this reserve just a few minutes from downtown Wellington. I believe their material states that there are shuttle buses from various city points at set hours - if you need a ride out there. They have fenced off a part of natural Wellington and made every effort to rid it of modern plants and animals and allow... More

We went there just to take a walk and ended up following one of the free guided tour. I highly recommend that tour because we saw many natives birds and learn about them along the way which we wouldn't if we were on our own. The guide was great and we'll probably go back there for a longer walk (the... More
