Wear your walking shoes and bring the camera, you'll need both. Take the little electric boat across the lower damn and walk one of the paths up to the suspension bridge. They frisk you for rats on the way in because of the damage to the birds so leave them behind! The café upstairs is a great spot for a... More

I went there in April and it was a rainy season. I only managed to one or two type of bird, they were practically hiding somewhere. Walk up to the top dam and take a picture from there. The view is amazing! I enjoyed my time there despite of almost no bird and raining. It was a fun walk with... More

Enclosed by a vermin proof fence the Karori Sanctuary has successfully allowed the native birds to breed and thrive in safety and contributed greatly to the suburban revival of native birdsong. The setting is a pleasant and easy bushwalk that allows you to revive your soul and appreciate nature's gifts.

I had only ever seen Zealandia on tv ages ago. Went as a work function a couple of weeks ago and was totally blown away. Its so close to the city centre and yet you feel like you're in the bush. Go there. Take the night tour. You will see wild kiwi. You will be astonished about the knowledge and... More

This was our 2nd visit to Zealandia. Having done a day time tour a few years ago, we opted for a Twilight tour and found it a wonderful experience. We were expertly guided rounded with infra-red torches and saw a variety of nocturnal animals and birds: kiwis, tuataras, glow-worms, long-finned eels and much else unique to New Zealand. Thoroughly recommended.... More

We've lived in Wellington for 3 years and haven't been to Zealandia before. We enjoyed it immensely and will definitely return soon. It was a very relaxing place to visit and hard to believe that it is right beside the city. We saw plenty of bird life and several tuatara. The guides were excellent and the cafe would be a... More

We are locals- we both live in Karori. We hold a season pass to Zealandia, and my wife likes it because for $60 she gets a completely safe and also very pleasant environment to walk in. I thought people might be interested in our experiences of finding birds in Zealandia. Zealandia basically falls into two halves both of roughly equal... More

New murals on the wall and shop is good as always . The food is good and it is popular and busy on the weekends. Nice looking over the bush even on a wet day.

I enjoyed the half day I spent at Zealandia. I saw so much more in the guided tour than I would have on my own. The guide had free time at the end of the hour and asked if anyone was interested in seeing more, so I got extra info and bird watching. If you have enough time in Wellington,... More
