The service is amazing. Not many places offer free shuttles to their door any more, and then included in the inexpensive ticket is a guided tour if you're there when they run. The way it is set up is beautiful and the staff were great. Our tour guide was a lot of fun and obviously passionate about t=what he was... More

Amazing that a reserve this big and full of birds is so close to Wellington city centre. Easy to get to via free shuttle bus, this is well worth a visit. Not super cheap, but you are helping support their conservation efforts. You can do a day-long walk but there are also tracks suitable for buggies and mobility scooters. You... More

I took advantage of the free guided tour, hosted by volunteers to Zealandia and it was great because they pointed out things I wouldn't have noticed on my own, There are also nice tracks to go off and do some trekking aloe and hear the beautiful birdsong. I think Zealandia is a great initiaitive and there is the added bonusof... More

We decided to book the night tour so we could see if we were lucky to see kiwi since they are nocturnal. Tour guide was very informative and explained what we were seeing and the history of the area. We were very lucky and saw two kiwi which the guide said was unusual. We also saw glow worms on the... More

We have been regular visitors to Wellington from the UK for seven years and are amazed at the way Zealandia has changed over this period as the wildlife has settled in and increased. We are members (although we are only there for two months a year this has been well worth it) and this time visited twice, in August and... More

I've been to Zealandia several times, spending a few days there just walking the tracks, volunteering on track maintenance a couple of times, and I've done the night tour five times. Each time has just felt more magical and amazing, and I've slowly learned to know where the birds live (off the beaten track, of course :) ) and how... More

I had high hopes for the Sanctuary but I found it to lack the 'wow factor' that this place promises on the council website. I have had much more amazing experiences with our wild life and landscape tramping some of our walking tracks around the Wellington area. Certainly not worth the $18 (or so) or the millions that the council... More

We did enjoy it and would go back again. The cost was more than the value unless you consider part of the price is invested in the preservation of a great resource. Be prepared to walk.

It's a beautiful site to enjoy for relaxing! Their goal is to create a location that has only indigenous animals and so far, they have done a great job of accomplishing it with miles/kilometers of a special fence to keep outsiders out. At minimum you want 90 minutes to two hours but more if you love birds or just the... More

Having lived in Wellington for thirty years and seen how much council via rates has poured into this facility every year I was expecting a world class attraction. Sadly I was so disappointed with the experience. With the millions of Dollars and thousands of hours of free labour via volunteers (guides etc.) I guess my expectations were unreasonable but I...
