Some great singers, some not. Kids were amazing and the mother abyss was outstanding. She stole the show by far. The backdrops were outstanding and the orchestra deserved big applause.

Beautiful, well proportioned traditional theatre. Generous public areas. A pleasure to go to, and well located with such a variety of restaurants and bars near by.

Went to my first show here recently and what a delight! The interior is a treat for the eyes and adds to the enjoyment of the evening. I found the seating comfortable and easily accessed, and the ushers very helpful. Will definitely go there again.

Worth a visit just to see the interior alone. Cherubs, roses, ribbons, drapery, chandeliers, statuary - all a symphony in cream and gold. My only issue with the theatre was that the seating was very uncomfortable, I was in mild discomfort within about 45 minutes and sad that this marred my enjoyment of the performance somewhat. The foyer area looks... More

Some buildings in Wellington are just so much a part of "the establishment" that people and passers-by just don't notice them any more. The St James Theatre is one such building. It's beautifully maintained and easy to find along Courtenay Place - it's architecture is lovely. It's worth taking the time to really look at it - both inside an... More

Recently went to see Swan Lake here by Royal New Zealand Ballet and I was surprised to see how beautiful the architecture was, the theatre was spacious and did not feel crowded at any point. My seat was in the last row of the stalls but it did not feel far away and I still had an excellent view of... More

Have just got home from watching the Phantom of the Opera at the St James Theatre. What a disappointment. Not the show, not the scenery, orchestra or anything to do with the staging of the show but rather the fact that drunk people were allowed in and were raucously singing during all the best songs in the first half. I... More

Visited Wellington to see the Phantom of the Opera. First visit to this theatre. Great to be able to eat at the café within the theatre before the show - made for a very relaxed, stress-free experience. Good food, good service. Looking forward to the next visit.

if you have a thing for buildings, then the restoration of this building fully did it justice. Wellington has no shortage of event venues, but this one is well worth checking out and if you can get to an event here all the better.

Recently visited to see NZ Opea's performance of Madam Butterfly. To make a memorable night out you need a great performance and a wonderful venue. So how did it go. Fantastic performance by the cast, seen this opera in several cities around the world and this ranks as one of the best, not an empty seat in the house. The... More
