I am a science geek, so was looking forward to a whole museum on volcanos as I travelled through volcanically active areas of New Zealand. But this museum was neither well planned nor well implemented. Typeface on displays was too small to read and had too much empty space. While the topic is inherently 'dense', they could have had more... More

I never pass by without visiting. Learn about the Taupo Volcanic zone and the earth beneath our feet. An excellent collection of books for all ages and knowledge levels.

You can be sure of a good shaking, if you so choose, that simulates the effects of the Christchurch earthquakes that devastated that city as recent as 2011. That comes towards the end of the immensely informative centre that explains in some detail nature's continually moving ground beneath our feet; New Zealand has over 40,000 earthquakes a year but nearly... Myself and a friend (a native of Taupo) visited the centre together. One really ought to if you are staying in this area!! The landscape is riddled with volcanoes so an educational visit to find out exactly what is going on beneath your feet is advised and well worth it! It is very educational and thoroughly interesting, whether adult or... More

Although the place was a bit tired and some of the demonstrations were not in working order, the information of the volcanic activity and history of New Zealand was good and interesting to a non Kiwi

A friendly reception and some interesting displays on volcanoes & earthquakes including an earthquake simulator and a number of short films on volcanic events around New Zealand. The place however does need some work doing.

the centre gave lots of good information that was interesting and the movies were good. Had some interactive happening. A family pass was $31 and think a little over priced, I would have said $25 would have been better

Such a surprise to see all the interactive displays. Some of the buttons did not work but there was lots to see and do.

Worth a visit if you have a rainy week but its a bit jaded. Some of the buttons don't work and it could do with a revamp. Lots of interesting information though if you have the inclination to read it, and a couple of videos of volcanic eruptions which were informative. Also an earthquake simulator.

We did this on the way to Huka jet ride, found it to be very informative. The cinema part a must. I just think it's a little over priced for what you see.
