It was $10 in for students which is reasonable. There was a few activity related things to do but some of them seem a little tired and perhaps could do with replacing. The earthquake stimulator was fascinating, I've never experienced an earthquake so the ferocity surprised me! We learnt a lot for sure but a few more activities could do... More

There were interesting and informative posters/diagrams/models, a great 3D diarama of the area on which you could light up certain items with buttons - like a particular volcano or caldera, we also rally enjoyed the created tornado and another "science demo" showing how a geyser erupts using a big test tube. Interactive models showed how the tectonic plates intersect and... More

Just the place to learn about geo-thermal activity. It's not too big so one isn't overwhelmed but I came away feeling that I had learned something.

Brilliant. Very old school but really informative. If you're interested in geology or just how the landscape is formed, it's a must see. The Christchurch earthquake simulator was frightening.

Somewhere else. A good little centre which gives a great overview of volcanic activity. The film footage of the 1995/1996 Mt Ruapehu eruptions is excellent. The earthquake simulator is a great experience for those who've not experienced a large earthquake. Expensive ...........maybe, but then everything is!.

Very affordable educational stop on volcanos and earthquakes. Interactive activities, videos, and an earthquake simulator make this a great stop for families!

We stopped to get an understanding of the geothermal activity in the area. We found all we could want and more. Lots of useful information about how the planet works. The displays need to be brought into the modern era - far too much text based information. As an adult, I found myself that struggling to remain engaged. Some wonderful... More

We enjoyed the earthquake simulator, but the actual centre could do with a face lift. LOTS of written information if you're interested in reading about lots of history, but probably a bit on the boring side for a family with small children.

This is an interesting interactive centre around the volcanic region but expensive for what it is. If you are going to National Park or Te Papa in Wellington or The Museum in Auckland then do those instead. Much cheaper (often free).
