The area history was revealing and interesting. I was dissappointed the glow glass display was not up but they have a well designed museum and is priced well.

Cute little museum. Didn't look like much when we first went in but the kids were engrossed. They gave out a kind of treasure hunt for the kids to do, looking for things around the museum and they really enjoyed doing it. Filled in a good couple of hours on a rainy day.

Love this little Museum by the Park. I got to know more of Taupo and its past by watching a video clip in one of the hallways. Now I know logging has been such a crucial industry for Taupo since its early days. Also the garden is full of native plants - I love the design and plant combination. You... More

This was a very nice museum for a small community and we thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit there on a rainy afternoon. It has a beautiful garden related to the Maori culture near the entrance area and this is a good place to begin the tour of the facility. There were several other local exhibits about the people in the... More

If you're not going to Volcano World at the government seismic monitoring station out of town, this museum has a passable display about the geology of the Taupo area. The travel trailer in of some interest, and the re-constructed Maori house is a good representative of this type display (although not as impressive as those in Auckland Museum). The temporary... Small but nice diversity of geology, caravan of old, trout fishing, logging, and local Maori history and culture. Great for a rainy morning.

This is a really excellent little museum, with very interesting displays. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful. It really is worth an hour or more of your time. Whilst there, take a few minutes to look at the rose garden next door - it is free and very beautiful.

As we just arrived in New Zealand, we wanted to know the culture of New Zealand, so we spent time to visit this museum. It was a small and compact museum. We know about the trout and the exploitation of the forest at the beginning of the 19th century until the real Forest have been replaced with the current man... More

Reasonably priced ($8) and very interesting. Located just near the Taupo self labelled SUPERLOO - where you can taken a shower or spend a penny. (Actually a bit more than a penny - I think it was $4 to get in, maybe $2)

Lovely well set out museum with interesting art displays - well done Taupo. Good mix of history and contemporary exhibitions plus a small shop for those who might like a souvenir to take home. It is good to see local and international artists exposed here.
