This is a really excellent little museum, with very interesting displays. The staff are enthusiastic and helpful. It really is worth an hour or more of your time. Whilst there, take a few minutes to look at the rose garden next door - it is free and very beautiful.

As we just arrived in New Zealand, we wanted to know the culture of New Zealand, so we spent time to visit this museum. It was a small and compact museum. We know about the trout and the exploitation of the forest at the beginning of the 19th century until the real Forest have been replaced with the current man... More

Reasonably priced ($8) and very interesting. Located just near the Taupo self labelled SUPERLOO - where you can taken a shower or spend a penny. (Actually a bit more than a penny - I think it was $4 to get in, maybe $2)

Lovely well set out museum with interesting art displays - well done Taupo. Good mix of history and contemporary exhibitions plus a small shop for those who might like a souvenir to take home. It is good to see local and international artists exposed here.

The Taupo Museum is a good way to spend a bit of time when looking for things to do in town. If you have a bit of extra time, you might want to also visit the garden and park around The Taupo Museum. During the spring this area has many plant and flower blooms and makes for a nice place... More

I very much enjoyed my visit to this small but surprising museum. Great regional history, two art galleries and a replica of the Chelsea Flower Show-winning garden. Free entry for kids, $5 for adults. Friendly, helpful staff. A nice pace to spend a quiet hour or two.

This little museum has some good geological information and some excellent Maori cultural exhibits. Particularly fine Maori carving in the meeting house is worth a visit on its own, along with an impressively large, old waka. Outside is a gorgeous little garden which was transported to England to win a gold medal for NZ at the Chelsea Flower Show in... More

...if you want to learn more about the geological and maori history of the area. The amazingly preserved 15 metre 1.2 tonne Maori canoe, found in the hiils by a pig hunter circa 1950 and thought to have been carved circa 1850's, was amazing!

A great little museum, well curated and a good place to pop into - especially on a rainy day! The staff are friendly and helpful and there is an interesting and eclectic collection.

Learn a little of the past at this rather nice museum. A lot of topics covered and something to interest everyone. A bargain for seniors too at $3 entry. Loved the reconstructed 'Chelsea Winner' garden from 2004 depicting New Zealand. Inside plenty of Maori history and a replica meeting house, a model train showing the logging era, many interactive displays... More
