You can enjoy the place and thermal spa for free great location and a good timepass. It has good hot water pools to have fun in.
We visited this this evening and it was really cool. The thermal pool by the river is pretty awesome. Its so warm but there are varying sections of warmth to choose from. Its like the only free thermal water area around taupo.
I researched this place before our trip but didn't know exactly where it was. The lady at the front desk of our hotel wasn't sure either and said it could be one of two locations. We found it eventually down Spa Road. You park at the top of a hill and walk down the slope to the river. I didn't... More
It was sooooo good ... Free!!! I went on a warm and sunny winter day. It wasnt cold at all. Just right. So refreshing~
This was one of my favourite places in Taupo. I had read about this and must admit to being a bit apprehensive about impinging on the locals turf but nobody seemed to care and there were plenty of backpackers there also enjoying the spot. There is no better way to spend a lazy hour or two than soaking in the waters... Absolutely great! The natural spring is awsome and very realxing! You can pick the temperature by changing the location.. The higher, the hotter! Go when it gets dark and watch the stars while soaking in the warm/hot water... Also a really good place to go when it rains!!!
The most beautiful spot. A thermal stream meets the river about 10 minutes walk from the car park. Pick your own temperature by going closer or further from the water falls. Have a few beers in the water and meet some locals or other visitors. Lovely! And free!
This was cool, and free. It was nice to go for a swim in the river, it is just a short walk down to the swim area with cool views. Probably best to go when there are not so many people, it was fairly crowded while we were there. Everyone was really friendly and made room for others to experience... More
This is a great little spot but it is a fair walk from the carpark to the swimming spot so not suited to those unstable on their feet or with limited mobility see note below. Wear your swimsuit under your clothes as there is no where to change etc and beach shoes would be an advantage on the slippery rocks... More
Don't pay to experience a thermal spa - take a walk to this natural hot spring instead! You won't get the luxuries like a shower but nothing can beat relaxing in the water overlooking the river, watching the steam rise and feeling the earth beneath your feet. It is a short walk (and all uphill on the way back). Carpark... More
