The aerial tour from Lake Rotorua is excellent value and follows the eruption trail of the 1800s. Looks like an excellent hiking and walking area too

The wife and me landed on top of Mt Tarawera as part of a helicopter tour. Breathtaking, awe-inspiring and most of all very humbling is how I'd describe this. Seeing the size of the crater makes you feel rather small. The vibe on the mountain makes it easy to understand why it's not open for one and all to trample... More

Probably one of the highlights of our visit. The floatplane flight over Tarawera is highly recommended

When I visited this place, it was shrouded in mist and you could ski down the crater to the crater floor. What is amazing is that the pumice gives way, so its like skiing around boulders. All the more exciting because the fog meant you could not see the bottom.

You would expect the water to be freezing cold. We were taken here by friends. I am glad it was their car on the rugged gravel road. A very pleasant and unique experience. I would recommend this spot for a free dip in the mineral waters of Rotorua.

We walked out of Te Puia across the car park to our helicopter. The lady pilot was so enthusiastic about NZ and she was from the Netherlands. This ride to the top is stunning and not to be missed.

Swum in the lake, fished in the lake, walked to the waterfalls at the lake & went to the hot pools there too. Except for parking availability, this place has it all!

It's amazing to see the damage this volcano has wrought. It's a beautiful area and there are people who will tell you that the eruption damaged all the burial grounds and those that live there will see "spirits" walking in their homes at all hours. Would have liked to have seen that!
