Coming around the corner and seeing Mount Tarawera across the lake was an awe inspiring moment. Seeing the tall mountain above a peaceful lake is difficult to put into words. Thoroughly recommend going there and seeing for yourself. A great spot to visit. Road a bit windy to get there but slow driving keeps one safe.

The Helipro helicopter tour which took off from Te Puia was absolutely amazing. The views of the lakes and beautiful landscape and the volcano's massive crater was best viewed from the sky. Our pilot was vey nice, courteous, knowlegeable and very informative. We landed on the summit of Mt Tarawera where we had a very spectacular views of mountains, lakes... More

We did the Helipro helicopter tour of White Island a couple of years ago and were blown away. Visiting Taupo this time, we chose to do the Mt Tarawera Faultline Direct flight. We'd already visited the thermal area of Waimangu on the ground and been to Rotorua museum, where the history of the 1886 is graphically told, complete with "earthquake... More

Been here in june 2014. In the afternoon after we visited Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland and after a quick bite at the Subway along the road to the airport. The drive itself is worth the time spent, passing by nice landscapes, Blue Lake (Tikitapu), Green Lake (Rotokakahi), The Buried Village (Te Wairoa), Lake Tarawera. We observed Mount Tarawera from a distance,... More

The aerial tour from Lake Rotorua is excellent value and follows the eruption trail of the 1800s. Looks like an excellent hiking and walking area too

The wife and me landed on top of Mt Tarawera as part of a helicopter tour. Breathtaking, awe-inspiring and most of all very humbling is how I'd describe this. Seeing the size of the crater makes you feel rather small. The vibe on the mountain makes it easy to understand why it's not open for one and all to trample... More

Probably one of the highlights of our visit. The floatplane flight over Tarawera is highly recommended

When I visited this place, it was shrouded in mist and you could ski down the crater to the crater floor. What is amazing is that the pumice gives way, so its like skiing around boulders. All the more exciting because the fog meant you could not see the bottom.

You would expect the water to be freezing cold. We were taken here by friends. I am glad it was their car on the rugged gravel road. A very pleasant and unique experience. I would recommend this spot for a free dip in the mineral waters of Rotorua.
