Amazing location and views

Loved the history and location. The views are stunning. Worth the effort to get to this location. Connect this with a tour of the Buried Village.

We have been coming to Tarawera for the last few years. It is worth a visit. Not far from Rotorua. You can go down to the landing where there a couple of very short walks to see ancient cave drawings or see the trout swimming. Otherwise you can drive a bit further to boat shed bay for another short walk.... More

Nice offroad drive to the top, after a short walk you have a beautiful view over the Plateau and you can even See white Island . You also go into the crater and walk trough. The guides are really nice and we had fun time. All in all it was a great trip!

We cruised on lake rotomshana in the shadow of lake tarawera. It remains a sleeping giant and the source of the geothermal activity of waimangu volcanic valley. It is an imposing sight. 👍👍👍

We viewed this mountain from the air and it is absolutely amazing. The 17 km fault is clearly visible from the air but not so well from the ground. The story of the cataclysmic eruption is impressive.

The mountain has been quiet since the 1880 explosive eruption that vaporized much in the area and killed an entire village, and changed the face of the land. Some of the greatest boating and fresh water fishing in new Zealand. Fabulous scenery, especially at the new year when the local pohutukawa trees are in flower.

Two of us did the Mt Tarawera – Fly / Drive Combo - by Helicopter with Volcanic Air (Tour 3D). Expensive, but well worth it. We flew from the lake front in Rotorua up to Mt Tarawera. The flight took about 20 minutes. We then met a guide and walked down into the crater itself. I was a little apprehensive... More

First of all, the ride towards the mountain is awesome. It's 20 minutes off-road with stunning views. After that the friendly crew will take you to the top of the mountain. At the top you can see several lakes and if you're lucky even White Island. It is an unique view. Highly recommended.

We took the opportunity to go by helicopter to White Island and go right inside n active volcano. We then flew on to Mt Terawera where we walk around the top. An experience not to be missed.

a wonderful sight viewed any time of the day. BUT expensive to take a trip to the top unless you are a ratepayer removing seedling pines from the slopes...
