Nice walk with lovely views of the lake, bird life and geothermal activity. I went for a walk around the lake front on my first evening in Rotorua. If you want to see geothermal attractions, this is a nice introduction, but I recommend definitely going to see a paying attraction.

The lake is really pretty and has great views, especially on a sunny day! Its a great spot to have a picnic and watch the boats and planes about the lake. Some nice cafes along the lake front. Be careful of the seagulls though!

It may be a bit whiffy around Rotorua but the lake itself is beautiful, i wonder what's on the island in the middle?!

If you want to sit back and take in a fabulous panoramic view of the Lake and environs, head for Mt Ngongotaha's hilltop cafe. The black or white llamas wandering in the field are an added attraction and the view is magnificent on a good day. We'd highly recommend this excursion.

Nice to walk around either at the end of your day or before breakfast. Take some bread and feed the ducks.

Nice views but don't expect fantastic beaches. Lots of boat and heli excursions from the simple tour of the lake to exploring the wildlife sanctuary island in the middle of the lake. I never treid any so I won't comment. But I did enjoy the walk around the lake.

The sulphur can smell a bit but it's not bad and watching the shore line with puffs of steam is amazing.
