Gone are the many black swans. Instead tourists have encouraged an invasion of voracious gulls that will snatch food from unwary and unguarded hands. Inflatable playgrounds and cheap food shops have taken over. Shame. It used to be nice.

a lovely place to relax and watch the world go by - with wildlife and the unique hot springs. A great place to catch a seaplane for an aerial tour of the volcano and the area

This beautifully peaceful lake has a violent history. Geothermal activity continues below and around Lake Rotorua. Clouds of steam drift around the shore and the water has a high sulphur content, resulting in a magical green-blue colouration.

This lake is really interesting to walk (and drive) around the whole thing. Some sections are quite beautiful, blue, etc and others smell like sulphur and have steam coming out of them. The contrast between different areas of the same lake was really interesting.

This is a great area for families, with a very good playground and clean toilets. Also very close to 'Eat Street' if you are looking for somewhere to dine out.

The lake itself is kept in good order and the walkways well maintained. Great for a stroll or a run if that's your preference. There is a good area for kids to play on and use up their energy. Try the coffee shop on your stroll.
