Beautiful but not Taupo

It's a great lake - warmer than Taupo and the view from the hills are good. Tons of activities and the big secret the trout fishing is better than Taupo

We had a nice walk along the lake, close by to our hotel. Caught some closeups of geothermal pools, black swans (didn't realize they exist), and some kind of bubble boy lake activity.

We decided to drive around Lake Rotorua and on Te Ngae Road found three gas stations in a row selling petrol 10 cents a litre less than in the City. Bonus! A short stop at the airport then on to the Ohau Channel which connects Rotorua with Rotoiti. A while back, we stayed at the Marama Resort, the early part... More

We found there was a free concert and fireworks show on the waterfront which we enjoyed until the rain and wind delayed the fireworks but they were good when it finally happened.

This was not a place I was looking into seeing, but if you are driving from Aukland to Wellington (I highly suggest), this is a great town to stop over in and spend the night - great night life, affordable accommodation, great restaurants and friendly people. Rotorua is also very close to Hukka Falls which is also a fantastic site... More

Amazing view combined with the black swans made it really nice. It's definitely worth a quick stop even if only to grab a coffee !

A beautiful lake to return to. Great views of Lake Rotorua from all over the town. Stay at Novotel Lakeside and wake up to the sun on the Lake. Walk along the waterfront while children play at the playground.
