This place is amazing. It reminded us on the Lakes in Europa. Gentle Hills in the distance, lots of birds and black Swans, a paddle steamer cruise, helicopter and water plane flights and much more. Easy walking areas along the Lake and lots of benches to rest and enjoying the view. Public Toilets are located only over the road, a mall... More

The town aquatic activities seem to be centered at the dock and seaplane harbor. There were segways for rent and certainly lot of boat, seaplane and helicopter rides/ tours available here. I was satisfied to walk around and watch the people coming and going. A nice photo of all the scaups concluded my time there.

We had lunch at e lakeside cafe overlooking the lake. Very pretty. Couldn't get over the few hundred small ducks napping in the lake. They were not disturbed by the helicopters and only moved when people walked on the wharf. A pleasant easy walk.

If you are visiting or are in Rotorua on ANZAC day, April 25th you are more than welcome to come down to the urupa (cemetery) behind St Faiths Church at Ohinemutu before daybreak, and take part in the dawn parade service and remembrances. The ANZAC Day services are part of the fabric of New Zealand and Australia and are held... More

Some lovely shots can be had of this lake morning and evening - a beautiful - if a bit smelly - place to visit.

We went here whilst on a excursion form our cruise ship in Tauranga. As we were on a tight schedule on our way to the blue baths we had very little time here. The government gardens are lovely and set around this large lake. There were people sitting and laying in the sun enjoying the peace and quiet this natural... More

i spent a couple of hours walking the nature trail beside the lake. The bird life is abundant with all different varieties of birds that nest on the small island on the lake. The only downside is when you realize from the information about the lake that it's the most polluted body of water in the world with raw sewage... More

nice area during the weekends there are markets near by, you can find cheap eats and also very good prices in local produce. There I found a beautiful pounamu stone at $40 a bargain compared to souvenir shops! For the market try go before 2pm, as this one finishes quite early.

The lake at the Rotorua end is a hub of tourist kiosks. A paddle steamer is also located here. Walking paths lead left and right (facing the lake) the right path leads to a small thermal area and onwards to the government gardens, the left path leads to a pretty Anglican Church and the prime Maori meeting hall and a...
