Wai-O-Tapu thermal wonderland was one of the most remarkable and memorable sights on my recent trip to New Zealand. We arrived late and missed the Lady Knox Geyser but there was plenty more wonderful geological sights to see. Really enjoyed watching the mud pools just a few minutes away as well. The colours in the artist palette, champagne pools and... More

I had never been to anything like this before and it was like being in the centre of the earth - it was hot and smelly - and fantastic! Hot sunny day when I was there so make sure you take sunscreen and water. The cafe was nice and had a lovely view out to the parkland. Plenty of parking... More

There are three walking tracks through this largest of thermal systems. They are cleverly stacked so at any time, the walker is able to continue on or turn back. Taking all three walks took about 2 hours but that included a great many pauses for photos. Some of the colours infusing the rocks are amazing and the Devils Bath was... More

Although the lack of rain meant the springs and lakes were not as full as they might be it was still a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommend everyone to make it a must on their travels.

This would have to be my fave of all of the thermal parks in Rotorua. The colours are stunning...different at every turn. The paths are safe and accessible . Never tire of going there. It has a similarity to Grand Prismatic Springs in Yellwstone National Park in Wyoming, USA - from the colour respective. Definitely the pick of them all.

Went here to do the tourist thing and were pleasantly surprised with the whole experience. Weather was not so good but definitely worthwhile.

About 20mins drive from the city. Be there before 10.15am so that you get to see the lady knox geyser eruption at 10.15am. This wonderland is a nice place to see the different kinds of thermal activity, like mud pools (located at a different place), sulphur lakes, thunder crater, artist's palette etc. The place is well sign posted with easy...
