We got to the park for the eruption of the Lady Knox geyser at 10.15am, aim to get there for 9.45 to get your ticket first and drive to the site without being in a rush. We then did the shorter walk in the park and our small children (8, 6 and 3) really appreciated all the different colours of... More

We have decided to visit Wai-O-Tapu over other thermal parks and we did not regret our decision. We walked around the entire area, it said it would take about 75 minutes and it was about right. We saw steaming pools, colourful pools, sulphur cave and more. It was simply amazing. Before entering the park we drove to Lady Knox geyser... More

The bubbling mud pits and steaming geysers were a treat. We have already visited the ones in yellowstone national park so these were less exciting but our toddler thoroughly enjoyed it. You can take a pram most of the way but there is a section that is mostly stairs and would be unable to take it with you. We just... More

This is great value for money! You see the thermal pools in depth and learn a lot about them. It is a beautiful walk around and you can spend several hours here. I dont recommend the 10am geyser eruption. This was a lot of hype and not worth going early for. One thing to take note of is that if... More

I can't help but feel Rotorua is shooting itself in the foot with the prices they charge to walk around and view the natural attractions. This place is a prime example, they obviously have very small overheads but charge a ridiculous amount of money for people to have a look at what nature has spent so many years building. I... More

A lot of geysers and caves and lakes. You'll see a lot of colors here (orange for metals, yellow for sulfur, green for arsenic if I remember well)

Wonderland indeed. We visited on a sunny winter's day during school holidays. We purchased tickets (NZ $110 for 2 adults + 4 children) then drove back to Lady Knox Geyser, 2 minutes away. A brief talk was given at 10:15am, then we witnessed the eruption with a rainbow in the background. Just beautiful. Plenty of time for photos as it... More

We enjoyed our visit to Wai-O-Tapu, which offers a full complement of geothermal attractions: bubbling mud pools, gurgling craters, a couple of wacky-colored lakes, and an on-demand geyser that is made to erupt every morning at 10:15. If the Lady Astor geyser is somewhat less impressive than those in Iceland or Yellowstone, the park makes up for it with a... More

This has to be one of the most interesting places on earth! Beautiful scenery! The hike isn't too hard and the printed guide is very helpful. Just be aware of the sulfur smell.

Wai-O-Tapu blew my mind! With all the different geothermal activity going on you get to experience something above the normal - excellent views and colorful hot pools such as the red/orange Champagne Pool and the green Devil's Pool. When you enter the area you get a really informative map that makes it easy for you to learn about all of... More
