With a very reasonable price, gorgeous nature to see and able to spend a decent amount of time here this was my favourite volcanic area. The mud pools were bubbling and the pools all different colours. This would be a great attraction for all except wheelchair bound. The staff were more than friendly and as we were unable to see... Make sure you get there early so you can park your car and get a good spot to see the 10:15am Lady Knox Geyser eruption. You need to check into the visitor centre first to pay for your pass - there are rangers about who will guide you where to go. After you see the Lady Knox eruption, which is... More

I only stayed in Rotorua for a couple of days, but this was top of my list of things to do. I was picked up from the hostel as part of my tour and this included stopping off to see an active geyser before getting to the Wai-o-tapu. This place is amazing, lots of different types of thermal activity going... More

We spent an unforgettable half day here as part of our recent honeymoon. This place is truly unique with geysers and geothermal features that you will never have seen or experienced before. A truly extraordinary place. It also has an excellent gift shop and a cafe serving the most delicious chicken wings and sausage rolls.

This seemed less commercialized than some of the other geothermal spots. This was a lovely walk and was well maintained.

Reasonable walk with a few steps but easily navigated. Good mixtures of sights. Easy distance from Rotorua and worth the 1-2 hours round trip

Beautiful and lovely place to walk and wander looking at mother nature. All areas are well maintained and little booklet tells you what everything is. Facilities were all clean. Though your wallet does take a bit of a hit, this understandable to keep it all in the condition it is.

We went to Wai o Tapu mainly to see the Geyser eruption (supposed to happen every morning at a fixed time. It was a bad experience because the geyser is made to erupt at that time by putting some soap water. It is better to see the geysers in Te Puia where they erupt naturally and regularly. Also, the geyser... More

Came on a beautifully calm and sunny mid-August day. This park is beautifully laid out and informative about the history, geology and botany of the space. Price of admission was a bit much, particularly for something self-guided and remote, and the store had a lot of tack, but would still recommend.
