we choose Whakarewarewa because it's the real village not the government one on the other side of the geysers. all of the money you spend for entrance goes to the people who live in the village and the guide was fantastic

Came here on a very windy and wet day in Rotoura but it still ended up being my favourite day out of the whole of my NZ trip. Great value for money, very knowledgable and passionate guide and a very fun Maori culture show. The geysers and mud pools are beautiful and I know this attraction is cheaper than some... More

We enjoyed our visit here. It's cheaper than some of the other similar attractions. The dance concert was entertaining and it was interesting to wander around and look at the geyser, springs and mud pools.

We toured through here with our group of 38. Whakarewarewa is the real deal. The people who run the place also live there so you get a traditional and honest idea of how their lives are affected by both the geothermal environment and the cultural background. We also had the Hangi lunch. Delicious! Thanks for a wonderful day.

Our tour began with an introduction by a Maori woman who lives in the village. She was our guide for the afternoon. We walked around while she explained each area of the village and told how they live. Food was cooking in the thermal waters and steam vents. We also saw the communal bath house with constant hot water and... More

This was such an insight to the Culture of the proper Maori people. This village still has traditional Maori families living there. My husband and I went originally to just watch the show. Afterwards we decided to take the guided tour which was brilliant. We learnt a lot about the culture and the way they lived. We only spent a... More

Excellent experience. The guide - Sandra - was superb. Informative at the right level, good touches of humour. This is a living Maori village which of itself would be interesting. Add in the thermal aspect and it is a not to be missed experience

How do people live in a thermal hot spot? Visit this village to find out. They cook with thermal heat, bathe with it, use it to make a living. Great show as well.

Our Hotel recommended this village as being more authentic with Maoris actually living there. We joined the guided tour with an excellent guide who lived in the village. He was knowledgeable, approachable and entertaining. Whilst we were there the Geysers were very active and they out shone the Lady Knox geyser we had seen the previous day. The culture show... More

This was a great trip with guides who come from the village. The fact that people still live in the village gives an authentic insight into Maori culture. The hangi food cooked from thermal heat and sweet corn cooked in thermal waters were very tasty.
