the museum does an excellent job of presenting local and regional history in a way that is relevant to all, including a wonderful new art gallery attached, plus a great cafe.
I love history and the Rororua museum is certainly well worth the admission charge. A great insight in to not only Maori culture but the events surrounding the 1886 eruption of Mt Tarawera. Go down and look at the basement area as well to learn about the history of the bath house. A must see while in Rotorua...!!!
Fantastic-was proud to show my visitor around . At only $20 pp. it was an amazing place to spend a few hours.(locals free) Started off with the earthquake history & shaking seats then went upstairs to viewing tower platforms. What a fantastic view! Then went to visit the haunting ghost amongst the steam pipes. Ventured downstairs to view the old...

Superb site, great renovation, and a great slice of medical history. The docent who guided our tour was delightful. She was a "museum piece" herself!
not really much to see and a bit expensive to get into. If you live in Rotorua then admittance is free, so If you have out of town visitors won't cost you anything to visit. Not much on show , lots of stairs so I missed out on the lookout and the basement. A lift takes you only to 1...

Thoroughly enjoyed the Te Arawa displays, could have spent hours there, especially enjoyed the Maori Battalion movie and displays. Than was the most excellent guide through this section. Too bad the kids couldn't have a listening device too...we paid for them to get in as well and it would have been nice for them to hear all that was said...

We were very impressed by the history and art at this lovely former health spa. There was plenty of chance to wander through the old building looking at the views, at the old photographs of the spa,and some amazing art work. The reenactment of the 1880 earthquake was awesome and well worth watching.
It can be difficult to sustain interest throughout a museum but our awesome guide Bruce Cooper gave us almost 2 hours of background, insights and stories that kept us enthralled. The Museum itself is a great combo of a old health spa and an excellent cultural history.
You must go to this museum. It is so interesting and has so much Maori history. The architecture is incredible and the baths in the basement and the treatments in the "health spa" were like something out of a Dickens novel. Be sure to climb the stairs and go up on the roof too!!
