Fantastic place, much better than we expected. The layout is very good giving you good views of the birds and fish.Don't miss the section that has animals that were introduced to New Zealand, there was a lovely baby wallaby in its mothers pouch when we were there. With your ticket you can go back again in the evening when it... more

We thought this was quite expensive to do both the park and kiwi encounter so we only looked around the park, the other downside was that it was raining during our visit - but umbrellas are availale free of charge. The native exhibition is good but short, seeing the little Kiwi birds was good and the trout pools are good... more

Our trip to Rainbow Springs was a spur of the moment adventure, and I'm so glad we went. The tour thru the Rainbow Springs was made better with an audio tour that gave a lot of interesting information. The Springs take part in a lot of conservation which makes their facility invaluable. The Kiwi tour showed the building where kiwis... more

Kiwi Encounter just has to be on every tourists list of things to do whilst visiting Rotorua. It is one of the few places or even the only place that you will see a Kiwi at such close range and in it's natural habitat. more

It was an overcast day in Rotorua so we decided to visit Rainbow Springs ( a very good thing to do)- it was great to be able to walk through free flight aviaries and see the birds we have heard so much about. The Tui's (with the 2 white feathers at their throat) were in full vocal flight - the... more

Both places are for people interested in truly learning about New Zealand wildlife in a calm and beautiful setting. This is not the place for adrenaline junkies, but for visitors who love the wildlife here. Read my little article for more information. more

What a fantastic place, especially Kiwi Encounter. We got to see the kiwis up close and not even behind any glass like at the other kiwi house. It was cool to learn what is being done to protect this highly endangered bird. more

DO NOT GO HERE!! YOU WONT SEE A KIWI!!!! Dont pay $22 (NZD) for their KIWI ENCOUNTER because YOU WONT SEE A THING! This was by far the WORST place I went in New Zealand and I wouldn't recommed it to anyone. Unless of course you DONT want to see a kiwi. It is a COMPLETE RIPOFF, they advertise as... more

I'm sorry you suffered disappointment while at Rainbow Springs, being unable to see kiwi on your visit. I believe from your review that the kiwi on display was probably asleep and they can camouflage themselves exceptionally well when they choose to. Kiwi tend to sleep up to 20 hours per day and we absolutely do not force our animals to...
