Outdoor kiwi sanctuary...we saw real live (HAPPY) kiwis walking about. They are so adorable, they look un-real. The sound they make is memorable and endearing. In the wild, kiwis have an extremely high mortality rate during the first 2 years of life...Rainbow Springs has a nursery and raises them until they are old enough to be released into protected (predator-free)... We went during the day which was fun. Saw the exhibits and rode the rides. The real reason to go is at night to see the kiwis running around in their habitat when it is dark.

It is quite expensive. When we went there the big splash didnt even work, but you still paid the same price. The lighting of the park in the darkness looks nice. And at least you can watch some kiwis walking around without having a window in front of you :)

Thank you for your comments. You are right, the park is beautifully lit at night and the kiwi (without glass) at nightime is a real treat. Our Big Splash water ride is currently closed for 2 weeks for its annual maintenance shut and a discount is being offered on admission price which you should have received on entry. If you... More

Love this place so much! But I'll give it a three because of the price. I wish they could just bring the price down so we could visit more often. We hardly can visit with their price. I'm sure if the price was more affordable more people visit than they already are.

Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts about your recent visit. We appreciate the feedback. We do have an annual pass that can be purchased which makes multiple visits to the park great value. The passes also give you great discounts here in our cafe and gift shop as well as at different attractions around Rotorua. Check... More

The place is really good for kids and those kids at heart! It's amazing to see different kinds of animals and their ride thing was short but fun and make sure you have a change of clothes cause you will surely get wet!

Thanks for your review - we appreciate your feedback. Pleased also that you enjoyed our ride - a handy tip is that the middle seats are quite good for "less splash". Hope to see you back here again one day! More

As locals we have a family pass to the park and my girls 4 and 6 love visiting, feeding the fish, playing on the playground and of course the kiwis are always a highlight. If they have been good we will visit at night after bath time to see the kiwi in the dark which is a treat for them.... More

Hello there! Thank you so much for taking the time to write about the park. We love our loyal Annual Pass holders and hope you are using it around town at other attractions to get discounts (the kids get to eat free at the Holiday Inn's Chapmans restaurant is a great one!). Really appreciate your feedback and hope to see... More

We visited in the daytime to ride the Big Splash with our 7-year old, lots of fun, and see some beautiful trout and bird life. Sadly the bird show was cancelled the day we visited due to poor weather, but we still had fun. We returned at night to see the Kiwis close up - so great to see them... More

This is precisely the sort of place I'd never visit if I were traveling on my own. It's a theme park, and the "theme" is NZ natural history. We went just for our son's amusement, and it was a total blast. We started our visit on a "splash mountain" type water ride that carries you through NZ's natural history and... More

Fantastic review - Thanks! It sounds like you made the most of your visit and we LOVE the "fuzzy eggs on legs" description about our kiwi - they really are very unusual little creatures. The African Grey parrot is called Mandela and is very charming - he has quite a collection of words in his vocabulary but is a great... More

Took our young kids on the new splash ride (aged 2 & 3) - they were a bit scared by the dinosaur but lved the big splash. Photos are stupid expensive though - just get someone with you to stand at the bottom and take your pic on the way down the big splash :-)

This place made such an impact on the family. It had everything a family might want to see. The kids LOVED the Big Splash. I LOVED the fact I got to touch a Californian Redwood Sequoia. My wife LOVED seeing the kiwis at night.

Thanks Ken! We LOVED the fact that you enjoyed your time here and that our passion for native, natural New Zealand made an impact on your family. Great also that you got to come back at night to see the kiwi - a very special experience in our glassless nocturnal aviary. Wishing you safe & happy travels! More
