Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. The Maori people are so proud of their heritage, you can understand why when they tell you about their ancestors. They show you the Haka. They serve a very nice meal. But be careful of the alcoholic punch and non alcoholic punch it is so sweet.

Stayed overnight at the Maori village, cost about twice as much but DEFINITELY worth it. Get a chance to have a very personal and insightful experience, being welcomed into Maori culture with a small group, you also get to see the normal experience and this just adds to the value of the overnight stay - you realise how much it... We took our family on this trip to experience a bit of the Maori culture. They were very impressed with everything, especially the food and the show. We were lucky to see a group performance from Hawai as well that night.

We came for a family maori meal and to view a cultural experience, the food was bland and did not taste like a maori meal, pudding was not cultural and lacked flavour, staff are too rushed to get a word in. However, we enjoyed the Maori cultural dancing and singing, was excellent.

We were recommended the Tamaki Maori Village by a friend of ours in Auckland and though it was described to be great, i dont think it quite captured the sentiment. Quite literally from the moment you step on to their transport, which picks you up from any hotel you are staying at in Rotorua, the entertainment rolls on. From the... More

I visited the Mitai Village in December and enjoyed the experience so thought it be a good idea to take my family members to the Tamaki Maori Village last week. What a disappointment. I left feeling totally ripped off and appologised to my guests for waisting their time and money. You should be embarrassed to say the least. You are... More

A must do for all holiday makers at Rotorua. Picked up at front door of our accommodation. Had a fun trip to the Village in mini bus with our tour guide. Had a fabulous maori greeting then onto a guided tour of village life of years ago which was very entertaining then watched as our food was taken from the... More

We put a group of 38 through Tamaki last week. This attraction is expensive at around $100 pp but you would have to say it was nearly worth the money. We were collected from out accommodation and entertained on the bus trip in, once at the venue we received a full traditional Maori welcome. We then enjoyed a wonderfully prepared... More

OK so here is the bottom line. A terrific evening with friends or with family. Very kid friendly. The fun started with the bus pickup and ride to the village. The bus driver began introducing the Maori culture in preparation for our arrival. Right from the opening ceremony, through the exhibits & demonstrations, to the entertain and concluding with the... First things first, our coach driver was amazing. Probably the most incredible personality we meet during our stay in NZ. Unfortunately I can't remember his name as our visit was last year. Very friendly, kind and knowledgable. Some how he managed to remember everyones name who was on his coach, 30+ quite impressive! The whole experience from start to finish... More
