I think this is a must visit place in New Zealand. Spent the whole evening in the village to learn about the culture and story of Maori migrating to New Zealand. Also they provide delicious buffet dinner at the end of the tour

We didn't know what to expect but had a fantastic night and were thoroughly entertained. There was a bit of everything; music, dance, food and good story-telling. We also learnt about Maori custom and culture from the people themselves. When we arrived at the Village we were treated to an overview of Maori culture including battle preparation, face-painting and traditional... More

Put on by the Tamaki Maori tribe, interesting night with a culture show and a Hangi for the food. Obviously a staged performance clearly aimed at the foreign tourists of which there were many given by the number of languages the pick up driver used to greet each guest. (impressive) however informative none the less. good night was had by... More

This was a great evening trip - they picked us up from our hostel and drove us to the camp in the forest. The staff were very entertaining on the ride and professional in the cultural space, who were only too happy to answer any questions you had on the history of their people. Food was good quality. A great... More

Visiting the Maori village in Rotorua was one of the highlights of my trip. The presentation of their culture was interesting, informative, entertaining and humorous. The music, singing and dancing was spectacular, and the entire audience was riveted to their seats. The food was delicious, authentic, home made and very generous. There was an unbelievable selection so as to satisfy... More

This experience was fantastic, wonderful to get close to the indigenous traditions of this lovely country. The dancing and singing was spectacular, lovely food, and the opportunity to join in. I was chosen as one of the Chiefs and had a superb close-up intro to the Hangi.

My sister and I participated in the Maori Village experience as part of a G Adventures tour. We got to stay overnight and were hosted by a Maori couple, Heke and Leeda (sp?). They were so gracious and took so much time to share their cultures, beliefs, history and legends with us. We then participated in the general public presentation.... More

I had a lovely night at the Tamaki Maori village, although it was POURING with rain. Sadly this took a little of the magic out of the experience as a lot of the beginning of the night is outside. I still enjoyed it though and learned about the history and culture of the Maori people, which is after all why... More

If visiting with friends this is probably the best choice out of the Maori Villages open to the public in Rotorua. It generally attracts a younger crowd (18-30 year olds) and is more 'hands on' than some others. I like how the boys get to participate in the haka as well other activities. The show is really good and there... More
