Description: Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most...
Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

We didn’t know what to expect, but enjoyed this program very much. It was entertaining, educational and a great evening. We were touring in a campervan and were happy that they picked us up at our holiday park at no extra charge. If you have a choice between driving directly to the venue or taking the bus, be sure to... More

If you are a Kiwi I still believe this is an epic experience to have done. I did the overnight stay at the Maori village as part of the Kiwi Experience. We arrived and were welcomed with an all you can eat afternoon tea, and I tell you I had about 5 scones! It was also fresh and delicious. We... More

We weren't sure what to expect when we booked an evening at a reconstructed Maori village. It could have been tacky and fake, but instead it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The Maoris running the attraction were humorous, professional, friendly, talented, accomplished and - when it came to performing the "welcome ceremony" - terrifying. During a series... More

I must admit that my family and I were a little apprehensive prior to visiting Tamaki because we visited an Aboriginal village based on the same premise outside of Cairns, Australia years ago and the experience was like viewing a minstrel show. And, it was expensive! This was not the case with Tamaki, we loved the Maori Village experience and... More

Upon arriving at this experience we were sceptical at how it could last 2 and a half hours and were expecting to be sat around watching some good tribal dancing and events. How wrong and perhaps naive we were!! Over 150 people turned up on a random Tuesday in the middle of May, which I here is a nightly attendance.... More

On a return trip to New Zealand I made sure to take my family and friends to the hangi feast at the Tamaki Maori Village. I realize that it's a commercial production, however, I find that it represents the Maori culture. Everything about their way of life is explained in a way that's both entertaining and educational. The staff gets... More

Visited with Kiwi Experience, friendly hosts and a fantastic cultural experience. The village visit was informative, authentic, and a great view into NZ culture.
