Our experience with Tamaki started well but went downhill as the evening progressed. We were picked up on time, delivered to the main office, and enjoyed the informative bus ride to the village. The opening welcome ceremony was done well, as were the demonstrations of various skills and traditions. I attempted to swing the poi, though my lack of coordination... More

I highly suggest doing this. From the start we had fun,our guide/bus driver was very entertaining & funny.I felt every Staff/tribe member was informative & proud of their culture, you go through welcome ceremonies & walk around the set up village learning about different aspects of their daily life, you get entertained by their lovely vocals & a yummy meal.It was... Everything was great. The bus driver was funny and informative, and the experience felt genuine. The performers were very passionate about their culture and the impression of it they gave on the customers, and also very importantly, they were very accommodating to all the guests. Also the hangi tasted pretty good I must say. Would definitely recommend if you're around... More

We learnt so much about Maori culture, and thoroughly enjoyed the food, my only criticism would be that we would have liked a little more time to eat the delicious food.

Really enjoyed the evening, good amount of food for the money paid and they cater to vegetarians etc on request. It was good to see the culture this way, although it felt quite artificial as it was really a mock village built for tourists. However it is probably the most authentic way to witness the culture today unfortunately. Good evening... More

Unlike some reviewers opinions, we came away saying how genuine an impression we had of this experience right from the time we were collected from our motel. We were told with a mix of humour and reverence what we would expect on arrival and to treat all our interactions with the Maori people the same way. The different stations/education sites... More

The concept and hospitality and efficiency of service is to be commended. There is a quick glimpse and taste of s Maori heritage and various Maori activities. It felt quite contrived and in being over efficient one is shunted through like a sausage factory and shunted and spat out in no time. They are so proud of their heritage so... More

A wonderful experience not to be missed. To see how Maori lived and to see how they cooked in a hole in the ground. Fascinating.
