A friend and I visited for just the sulphur spa. It was brilliant, as was the view towards the park. In addition, Nicola, one of the staff members, was brilliant with her knowledge of the park and general friendliness.

I saw this featured in the documentary about NZ. I thought it was a big place. I reckon it will be worth the visit if you experience the mud bath. For us, because we were in a hurry, we never even went to the mud footpath.

My friend and I both booked our experience through iSite. Their usual pickup time was confusing that day so the staff helped us call and enquire the pickup schedule. Despite calling and confirming with Hell's Gate's staff, the driver ended up being nearly 40mins late for our pickup. On top of that, the driver stopped halfway through the drive to... More

What a great day we had the mud bath it was so much fun painting each other with the smelly mud and letting dry on you. The steam and heat from around the place added to the fun, then had bath in hot pool skin felt so clean. Warning make sure you don't wear any jewellery as it will turn... More

We visited at night and had the place almost to ourself, only three other people there. The mud pools were heaps of fun, lots of silky grey mud to cover yourself in and then bake in the hot water. Then jump into the big sulphur water pool and steam yourself at 40C deg. Clean shower and bathroom facilities. Great view... More

If you're in town for a few days, wait for a clear night to do this to make the most of stargazing in a hot pool. Great mud baths and friendly staff, bit out of the way but worth the trip to avoid too many tourists and light pollution from the city.

My partner and I opted for the UltiMud Experience, for a bit of indulgence. The self-guided walk through Hell's Gate was interesting to look at, with some great interpretive signage. As we had been in Rotorua for a few nights we were used to the smell of sulfur - but it was quite intense in this part of the world!... More

My partner and I decided to give Hell's Gate a go and it was a rather amusing and interesting experience. You can choose the option to visit the geothermal park nearby, but we'd decided all we needed was the great soak. You get 20 minutes in the mud bath, thereafter, you'd need to shower before heading into the sulphur lakes.... More

I have actually been here a few times before, but this time was the best. Consistently good, the mud was delicious, the water pool was nice and hot, showers with soap. Mmm It was great. I actually took some friends who have never been here before - it was even better than they expected. The staff were really friendly, explained... More

A very cool experience. You get up close to the geothermal activity Rotorua is known for. There's also an option to bath in the mudpools and sulphur spas. Everyone should try it!
