We have done 3 treks with Walking Legends over past 4 years and each has been as enjoyable as the other. The service around ones booking is most gratifying...you don't get stuffed around..if the trip is on its on...so you do not have concerns about booking airfares etc. On our last trip it went ahead with us plus a visitor... We are a group of 8 Kiwi women aged 57 to 74, who are regular trampers. We decided to “treat” ourselves to the Lake Waikaremoana walk, one of NZ’s Great Walks, with Walking Legends. From the first email, to the drop off back in Rotorua, Hilary and her team were excellent to deal with and got everything organised. We enjoyed... More

A great trip that both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. Great guides - Callum and Trent making life very comfortable and serving essentially restaurant quality food in a pretty remote area. The walk itself is beautiful, such a fantastic location which we essentially had to ourselves each day. We would thoroughly recommend walking legends if you are considering a... More

I highly recommend this trip. The itinerary provides a nice variety experiences from forest to coastal views to a volcanic valley and a chance to explore some beautiful beaches-all in four days. I found the trip description on the Walking Legends website to be accurate in terms of what we did and the difficulty. The day three walk to the... More

Hard walk especially coming down off the Mountain, but well worth the effort for the tremendous views, the 'vapour' from the volcanos, 'Mount Doom' and the Lakes. Our guide was very informative, pointing out various land marks and encouraging us to keep up a steady pace. Packed lunch was provided. A 'must do'.

We had an amazing time. We had 9 in our group, all of us in our 60's. The guides, Magnus and Trent, were fantastic....friendly, energetic, helpful and knowledgeable.....nothing was too much trouble for them. The Lake is bright, clear and beautiful...a refreshing daily swim is a great substitute for a shower. The walk is challenging but the trail is largely... More

A lot of people thought I was mad, as the guided crossing was my 60th birthday gift! However it was an experiance my husband and I will never forget. Our guide was excellent, very knowledgable about the area, and with the ability to keep us going, even up the "Devils Staircase". All the arrangements by Walking Legends were great, from... More

Fabulous walk, challenging informative and great fun. We had 6 in our group ranging from mid 20s to late 70s, expertly led by Magnus and Trent. I can't think of anything that could be improved, the food was amazing, even great wine at the end of a day. We ranged from amateurs to experts and the guides made it special... More

An enjoyable trip. Callum who guided us was helpful friendly and informative. The lodge accommodation was not at all good - more like a backpackers, and the trip was poor value for money. Life jackets were available for the trip across the Lake and should have been mandatory as the boat was not particulary stable. Tim Strevens

We are very sorry we didn't meet expectations accommodation wise. We use a range of accommodations throughout the north island and this is the best lodge style accommodation in what is a very isolated area, Te Urewera. We also think that our advertised 2 star description is fair. The plus side of this accommodation is the isolated setting in a... More
