Our guided hike of the Tongariro Crossing was one amazing day. Our guide, Rainier, was not only a perfect hiking guide, but also a perfect cultural guide as well. From helping us via phone and email to make sure we had the right gear for the unexpectedly cold and snowy spring weather, to picking us up right on time, and... More

A true wilderness experience around the beautiful lake. Generally light and gentle, the walk is suitable for hikers of all ages and levels of experience. First rate guides provide help in any way possible but don't expect comfort in the basic DoC huts!

We have just completed four days of walking on the Coromandel with Walking Legends. Day two had us on the Coastal Walkway, lovely walk with great views out to sea. Day three had us up to the Pinnacles, and unbelievably right up the ladders to the top. Many thanks to Brad and Callum for all their hard work and professionalism,... More

The generous owners of Walking Legends donated a guided walk of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing to a charity auction dinner for cancer research. Our guide was great and he made our day fun , telling us legends, explaining geological features and generally taking excellent care of us. He even went the extra mile (or many miles!) and ran back to... More

My wife and I had been looking forward to the holiday with Walking Legends, and we were not disappointed. All three trips were magnificent, and quite different. First, the guides were all knowledgable, helpful, and enthusiastic. They were also very reassuring whenever the walks became just a tad more difficult. Accommodation was pretty well what I had expected- Coromandel was... More

While on an unguided tramp of Lake Waikaremoana, a child in our group got separated and we found ourselves late in the day needing to organise an impromptu search party from Waiopaoa Hut. Nigel (a guide with Walking Legends) freely volunteered his boat and we set off to find the disorientated 12 year old. 20 minutes later we tracked down... More

As a nearly 74 year old, I booked this holiday feeling a little apprehensive, I need not have had any worries. My walking companions and guide were excellent, letting me walk at my own pace. The accommodation, a wooded cabin in the bush, so peaceful. The walk along the Coromandel walkway was perhaps the most spetacular walk I have ever... More

As a 50 year old couple with a 15 year old daughter and only moderate levels of fitness we approached this walk with some apprehension. The walk was challenging for us but the rewards magnificent, stunning scenery, the highlight of our two week stay on the North Island. Rainier our guide was brilliant offering encouragement, lots of interesting information about... More

One of my best tramps ever! Hillary was so helpful, patient and enthusiastic on the phone with my questions at H.Q. Rainer my guide was a fountain of information about the mountains and the lakes and the importance of the land to the Maori people. He was passionate, articulate, patient and just great fun to be with. Everything was so well... More

The guides were friendly, full of energy, and full of interesting information. You could tell they really knew the areas they were escorting you through, and had a deep love for their beautiful country. I found them very supportive and well-organised, making the who trip exciting and relaxing. The walks they chose to show us were suitable to the group,... More
