The haruru falls near Paihia are nice for a relaxing day hike. The trail along the river is a nice trail to walk. It leads you through forest and mangroves. The falls them self are not very spectecular. But when you rent a kayak in Paihia and kayak up the river to the falls i can recommend it. It is... More

Quick location from Paihia, falls pleasant to look at with a nice surrounding. A short drive around the corner on the way back gave you another look at the falls from a different direction.

Ok waterfalls. Hard to get close to take pictures. Average. Lots of better falls around. No facilities.

The falls were very easy to access. From the car park it was about a one minute walk. The falls were flowing well when we visited. The paths and walkways were well maintained. There were chickens running around in the area as well.

Haruru Falls today is a small residential settlement, about three kilometres inland from its larger neighbour, Paihia. But, in the days of early European settlement, it was the scene of many firsts. Haruru Falls was New Zealand’s first river port and an aramoana (sea road or ocean path) for the inland Maori tribes and for the early vision boats. HMS... More

The Haruru Falls were breathtaking, a short walk will take you down to the side of the falls where you will be delighted with the view.

well worth a visit and only 5 minutes from paihia and so its easy to get to - we went for a walk along the river that leads to the treaty ground but we only went about 30 minutes. The chickens in the car park are fun and they like to be fed.

We discovered Haruru Falls on our way south from Paihia Beach heading to Wellington. Very nice, short diversion with an easy walk around the falls, parking and clean restroom facilities.

We were staying just up the road and it was recommended we visit. We came straight after heavy rains and they were full and making a racket as they went on their merry way! Not high falls at all, but lots of water flowing through them! And as an added bonus, only a couple of minutes walk from the car... More

Our hotel concierge advised us to visit these falls. The day was overcast and the falls had some recent rains and this were very powerful on the day we visited. Not the highest falls in the world but if you are in the area certainly worth coming to take a look. If the day was nicer it probably would have... More
