This water is a must-go if you are in Paihia. It is just a few minutes drive from Paihia. You can also reach the waterfall through a nature trail that starts from the Treaty Ground (1.5 hour walk each way). We ran into a group of chicken at the fall (17 total).

Easy access. You can up close and personal to the falls. There are an array of decent waterfalls in NZ though many you can't get such easy access. Worth the visit while in Paihia.

A 2 minute walk from the car park. The weather had been dry for some weeks but there was still lots of water going over the falls. Be safe and smart and do not get too close to the edge like many silly travellers were doing. The adjacent entry to the Mangrove walk is not recommended. 5.5 km (one way)... More

On our family travels to Waitangi, we stumbled on Haruru Falls. This is a spectacular site with great walking tracks. The waterfall has a beautiful setting, this site is definitely worth a visit. Nature has many hidden sites around the country and this would be one of them. Waitangi is only a short distance away as is Paihia.

If you are looking for the opportunity to get in some exercise and visit a very cool spot in the Bay of Islands then I recommend parking in the Waiting grounds and taking the mangrove walk to Haruru Falls. The walk is approximately a 10 kilometre round trip, and is estimated to take 90 minutes each way. We were out... More

I have done this walk many many times - as it is a fantastic walk from Waitangi to Haruru Falls - or the other way - that takes you through typical NZ bush, over a mangrove broadwalk to estuary/river side bush walk that ends at the amazing Haruru Falls (the end of a lava flow) - or if go the... If you are driving past, then stop for a picture, but it's not really worth going out of your way to see it! There is a viewing point a little way downstream, which provides the best photo opportunity.

A well looked after track with no steep gradients and very suitable for a couple of 70+ grandparents, still relatively fit!

Visited earlier this week and enjoyed the very relaxed feel and the tame duck that seemed deterimined to get into my photos! Worth a visit:-)
