We arrived by cruise ship and booked a trip with Anglers Anonymous. We had a great 6 hour fishing trip. Darren our Captain and guide was very instructive on the techniques to catch and land the three King Fish and one John Dory, we caught a few that were under 1 meter long that we threw back. We used live... More

recommend booking a unit with easy walking distance from the Pier - so you are around the shops, restaurants and where the tours depart from. Small market when the cruise boats come in I think Monday and Wednesday. The Pier Restaurant - fab staff and huge meals. We took the ferry over to Russell - not much to do there... More

Nice beachfront. A good lookoutpoint next to the ferryterminal. Useful beach going a long way.... Hanson's Cafe and the other one's OK for a stop.

Rather exposed, handy for catching ferries. Facing the prevailing wind The harbour is fun to ferry across or to take a day trip to outer islands

Paihia is one of the gems of the Bay of Islands. The trip to Russell on the ferry is lovely and Russell itself is a must to visit. The harbour is lovely.

Had a great time walking through this town. Check out the local market for the gift stalls or get an icecream and relax. If you suffer sea sickness (like I do), you have to get some 'Paihia Bombs' from the Paihia Pharmacy. Nothing else has ever worked for me but these. They are AMAZING.

Perhaps we didn't give it enough time - didn't stay here for a few days to really get a feel for the place, but I would have to say that I didn't really enjoy the vibe. It is the kind of place whose personality gets overrun by tourism: lots of backpackers, cruise ship people, tour companies vying for the tourist... More
