A family member who heard we were staying near Paihia said whatever we do, just make sure we get out on the water, so we booked the Hole in the Rock, Dolphin Viewing cruise for the four adults in our group. The cruise boat looked to comfortably seat maybe 200 or so and we weren't crowded. The girls opted to... More

What a spectacular harbour and so much to do. Paragliding, helicopter rides, search for shells, markets, tourist shops galore with an amazing range and great prices. Even the chemist was worth a visit it is so well stocked and knowledgable pharmicisits. The souvenirs were amazing and lots of wildlife experiences to book here. Free shuttles to the cruise ship added... More

There are 3 boats you can catch to Russell. we went on the slow boat. It was a lovely trip of maybe 15 mins across to Russell.

We spent an afternoon there, just chilling. It is a great place to be, lots of people, some live music from the Harbour bar and absolutely no hassle about anything. Paihia is a beautiful city, and I think the Harbour is the place that sums it up.

Something wonderful in every direction. Being a busy tourist area there is always something interesting happening such as a helicopter taking off or a boat heading out to the harbour. This is a very beautiful part if N Z.

Love this harbour and the atmosphere of the surrounding places. Watching Russell from the ferry gave me the feeling of somewhere different from New Zealand. I have never felt this in New Zealand. Maybe it is the atmosphere of 'Russell'. The weather was beautiful on the day and the water view was amazing. This is the place I would like... More

The three days we spent on John's boat sailing the Bay of Islands was the best three days of our holiday. A fantastic boat, wonderful skipper who cooks like a master chef, gorgeous bays with great swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and lazing about ...all too good to be true. Just a wonderful experience

If the weather's nice, it's a lovely area to chill out. Catch a ferry to Russell or go for a spot of fishing. It's the main area of Paihia and so it does get quite busy. There's a cheap car park up the main street and plenty of places to eat.
