This harbour offers you so much to see. We took a dolphin watching tour and saw two different species of dolphins. The harbour is the gateway to the Bay of Islands... it's easy to join a cruise. There are a multitude of ways to be out there on the harbour, including sailboats, yachts, water taxis, charters and a ferry. The... More

We had a wonderful three-day sailing adventure and wildlife cruise on Manawanui with Capt. Jochen. Close up encounters with pods of both Common and Bottlenose Dolphin, two Little Green Penguins, and numerous pelagic bird species. Capt. caught us fresh sushi and green-lipped mussels he grilled on the barbie. The Manawanui is a comfortable boat that also sails well. Kayaking and... More

I would definitely recommend the Kingsgate Motel. It is clean, comfortable, free wifi (but only in the lobby area for half an hour daily) and a small pool and jacuzzi. For food, we tried Alongside Bar (spectacular location, reasonably priced)....the Amazing Thai restaurant was also nice, but I think the best bang for my money was Jimmy Jack's Rib Shack... More

Quite a few restaurants and bars. We tried a couple which seemed a little bit expensive but not too bad. Sampled some really good local beer. You can book almost anything from kayaking and parascending to boat rips and it is the place to catch a little ferry across to Russell which is a great place to visit.

An all day trip with stop offs at an island in the Bay plus the chance to explore the quaint little harbour town of Russell on the way back make this a fascinating trip with shore views of place Captain Cook anchored. Magnificent scenery and the exhilarating run through the Hole in the Rock made this a trip to be... More

Probably the best thing about to town is you can sit down on the pier and see stingray (they aren't fed by humans, they just come along to feed naturally!) Swimmimg around, they are huge! Also some amazing icecream - get the ferrero roche and snickers flavour! Of course, it is a tourist town so expect to pay tourist prices.... More

Took a tender from our cruise ship & then a bus past the waitangi treaty grounds to Paihia. Nestled in the Bay of Islands I guess it's 140 islands and this had a nice beach, great info center and large rocks with tide pools to visit. Colonial architecture in town and nice restaurants along the way.

Very good places to eat and great pier. Trips available to many places by boat. Nice shops and shore walks. Clean and just lovely to relax and enjoy.
