The place is a cafe, a chocolate factory with a museum, gift shop, and chocolate shop. The cafe has standard fare with some interesting ones that are wraps or baked goods (sweet & non-sweet). It's decent food, I liked the muesli cake (or whatever it was called), and you can have your sweets (like my cake) come with a side... More

Have been to Silky Oak three weekends in a row (despite living in Wellington and this place being in the Hawkes Bay!). Delicious chocolates. Vegans can eat the dark chocolates with fondant filling - they are clearly marked dairy free. The cafe here is very popular. We didn't eat here because there were no vegan options, but did have a... We stopped at the shop to buy chocolate on our way into Napier. When we were there I didn’t know there were tours of the chocolate company. I have just found out - too late - that it does tours. We just went there to buy some chocolate. The lady who assisted us was helpful and we bought chocolate and... More

Rather than a routine chocolate factory visit this became a chocolate experience. Not only able to view chocolate making and to sample product, you can also visit the adjoining chocolate museum for an incredible education about the history of the product itself. This self guided tour is highly recommended (and make sure that you allow enough time!) Once we returned... More

Every time we are back in the country and in the area we always visit and then have to worry about the weight of our luggage as we always return with a case full of goodies. The best Chocolates and marshmallow by far, cant be beaten!

Went to Silky Oak and had a wander through there museum. It is a brief overview of where chocolate comes from and its history right up to the modern era. Very interesting. Also had a hot chocolate at there cafe and had a look though there shop.

If you didn't have diabetes before you go here, you will when you leave, there's so many varieties you'll find yourself saying "ooo I want that and that and that" they even have boxes made of chocolate. The only thing that will tame you is the cost, very pricy.
