Recommend as a must visit on the Hawkes Bay Wine trail. Great venue, good wine selection , knowledgable staff, no cover charge.

Te Mata Winery is not a showy winery but is well worth a visit. Their wines are excellent and the employees very knowledgeable. We enjoyed their Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc so much we ordered it with our dinner at Mangapapa Hotel that evening. They had some of the best wines of any of our stops and you should pay them... More

Depending on your preferences, I found the Te Mata wines to be quite nice. I especially enjoyed their Sauvignon Blanc - nice, crisp. The gentleman assisting me was very knowledgeable.

Our visit was late in the day near to closing however the member of staff was relaxed about this and was happy to offer tastings of several wines. Favourites for us of those offered were the Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc and more particularly the Gamay Noir - a surprising, chilled red. It's not a large cellar door with a view... More

I was very disappointed in the service we got at Te Mata winery. We went in for wine tasting, hoping to buy a nice wine. The lady who dealt with us was rather rude and rushed, also did not give is much information as the great winery up the road! The wine was good but we did not buy because... More

We spent 1+ hour with the son of this family-run winery that is making exceptional wines for many years. Good tour (he had spent a year at Penn State). Buy a bottle of the Colerain if available.

We did a quick lap of this famous wine producer. It took around 2 hours,to establish the credentials of the eponymous Zara Viognier and the Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc. Exceptional

We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful wine that this small winery is producing. The winery is small but very clean and nicely presented. We were able to try a nice range of their wines in the tasting and not one was bad. Another nice touch was that the person offering the wine tasting, also offered us glasses of water... More

Find out or ask for the history of this winery and also find out about the Havelock North 'giant'. A great place to take visitors to Hawke's Bay, then go further down the road and dine at Tuki Kitchen. In the summer Blackbarn weekend market is also worth a look. Put Te Mata Winery on your agenda - there is... More

Stopped off to do a bit of wine tasting here and have to say that we were generally unimpressed. I suspect that the really interesting wines to taste were the 100$ plus ones on display but not available for tasting. It was winter but I felt that there was little to do here. No tour of the winery was offered... More
