We took a gannet safari tour to see the gannets and had one of our most memorable days in NZ in spite of the rain and wind. Highly recommend the tour- other option is a very long hike on the beach that has to be timed so you don't get caught by the tides

Cape Kidnappers is the famed location in Hawkes Bay where you can find the gannet colony that resides here much of the year. Unfortunately bad weather resulted in our not being able to participate in the popular tractor ride to visit the gannet colony during our recent trip. However, we were pleased to find and spot individual and a few... More

It may be that we didn't discover the best approach road in spite of following the signs. But we were able to go only as far as a sort of camping ground where we had to pay for the entrance. After parking the car, we walked to the pebble beach which was still pretty far away from the head, talked... More

This is a must do trip. It's very casual and fun. Dress code should be for the possibility of getting wet and occasionally dirty. Sitting on a trailer being towed by a tractor through some spectacular scenery, being told about the area, seeing the effect earthquakes had on the strata, a walk up to the gannet colonies with great views... Took the tractor trip to Cape Kidnappers. What an amazing experience. Liked the sense of anticipation as to whether you would make it through a particularly difficult area of rocks on the beach and if you did become bogged down would the tractor driver be able to get it out without all passengers having to disembark. The walk to the... More

Me and my friends we went to Cape Kidnappers on 12th September 2014. The weather was beautiful and we started at 10:30. Recommended time for start is no sooner than 3 hours after high tide, which was that day at 7:22 (according to http://www.tides4fishing.com/nz/hawkes-bay/cape-kidnappers). We had to wait 30 min, till it was possible to go on the beach with... More

Cape Kidnappers is an experience. The food is incredible, the view stunning and the quality and service was second to none. We went claybird shooting out on the point as well as checking out the gold house. It is incredible.
