Good retail space and for $5 per person, check out the short movie on the Napier earthquake, very interesting. Lovely ladies that were running it too.

I took the tour at 10.00 am for 17$ dollars. The tour takes about an hour with the choice to watch the movie which takes about 20 minutes afterwards. The lady who did the tour was really nice and did knew a lot about the history. It gives you a really good summary what happened in the 30s and how... More

This was a very interesting tour. Ours started at 5:00. The guide whose name I unfortunately can't remember was extremely knowledgeable. He was an older gentleman. Great information about the earthquake & rebuilding of the city. Would highly recommend. However, it would be difficult with small children or if older children aren't interested in history, etc.

The stories of how Napier rose from the rubble was shared with passion. Also made time to visit the old hospital where my friend was born, nice personal touch. Really enjoyed the way Paul gave time at each stop but kept us moving along so that we could experience all attractions. And thank you for taking the photos Paul.

The Napier Art Deco Trust host visitors to their 1930's Art Deco styled city CBD. They have an Art Deco shop crammed full of lovely memorabilia both to enjoy looking at and purchasing. They also offer walking guided, or self guided tours of the city and its architecturally historic city which was completely rebuilt in one era; the Thirties. This... More

We did an evening walking tour guided by Cherie, a volunteer from the Art Deco Trust. Her enthusiasm was matched by her knowledge of the town's architecture. Incidentally, we walked around before the tour and initially felt slightly underwhelmed by the art deco buildings (as another recent reviewer has also said)... BUT the tour showed the town in a completely... More

In 1931 an earthquake and consequential fire destroyed the city. The city was rebuilt in the Art Deco style of the time. We had to tender in as the Princess ship took the only shore birth. Easy ride for about 20 minutes and then a special free bus to the heart of the city. We had read a lot in... More

We visited from our cruise ship and had pre-booked the guided walk. Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, providing an informed commentary about the architecture and history of the town and its rebuilding. The movie presentation was also interesting but just reiterated what we'd already heard. No need to do both. As I said, we had pre-booked this and had... More
