Description: Matakana Village and Matakana Farmers Market, one hour from Auckland...
Matakana Village and Matakana Farmers Market, one hour from Auckland. Close enough to visit, far enough to stay. On Saturday the vibrant farmers market is a focal point for the community and its growers to meet. Produce fills the stalls - fruit and vegetables, delicious home-baking and Italian-style sausages, divine organic chocolate, fine wines and boutique olive oils, locally-brewed beer, cafes and live music. Matakana is a unique mix. Rainbow Valley Farm is a world-famous model for permaculture. You'll find a riverside gallery next to the new cinemas, the best in contemporary literature just over the road from teahouse or cafe.

There is a market on Saturday mornings (and possibly during the week as well) which has locally grown produce, a café ("LoveShack") that provides great breakfasts, a renovated cinema and a great pub. The people are lovely, it is easy to walk around and there are a range of shops including an art gallery with items to die for.

Brilliant Farmers market on Saturday. This little rural town takes you back in time and enjoy the good old time of having fresh food at the markets. Great snacks and music, a great place to relax.

A visit to Matakana markets on a Saturday morning is a must do for anyone wanting to get out of Auckland but not have to drive too far. So much on offer and just such a great atmosphere. Love everything about this place!

We went up there to have lunch with the grandparents who now live in Warkworth. The town is well worth a visit, and you can also pop into nosh to find something a little different too.

While recently staying in Matakana we had the pleasure of watching a movie at the beautiful Matakana cinema complex. The movie we saw was showing in the "Roxy" theatre, with only about 40 seats. All seats looked super comfortable, with lots of space and it was great being permitted to bring in your glass of wine and food - purchased... More

I love to go to Matakana market, I always get some fresh oysters and eat them straight away. The fresh fruit and vegetables are great. It can be very busy and afterwards I like to relax at MMK.

I went there one Saturday to check out the village and the market after all the hype surrounding Matakana. Though I did enjoy the village, I found that the market was small and well, pretty much average, a lot less than what I was expecting
