Description: Matakana Village and Matakana Farmers Market, one hour from Auckland...
Matakana Village and Matakana Farmers Market, one hour from Auckland. Close enough to visit, far enough to stay. On Saturday the vibrant farmers market is a focal point for the community and its growers to meet. Produce fills the stalls - fruit and vegetables, delicious home-baking and Italian-style sausages, divine organic chocolate, fine wines and boutique olive oils, locally-brewed beer, cafes and live music. Matakana is a unique mix. Rainbow Valley Farm is a world-famous model for permaculture. You'll find a riverside gallery next to the new cinemas, the best in contemporary literature just over the road from teahouse or cafe.

A great little village

Nice market with some good food stalls, and a great stop off point when visiting the area. Interesting little shops as well as a cinema.

Matakana Village is just charming. Excellent weekend markets. Parking can be bit of a pain, but its worth the hassle. If you cant find what you want at the market, there's even a branch of gourmet food market Nosh on the main street. It has a clutch of cool restaurants and a cute movie theatre too. A great couple or... More

Visited this farmers market on Waitangi weekend. The place was totally packed. Very busy. There are also lots of unique local offerings like cheese and beers

so much here to sample and buy and all given with a happy smile and local information if asked. Had one of the nicest bap's here, a BBQ'd green lip mussels and local smoky bacon with Hiropito sauce. Simple well worth the 80 mile drive. Nice setting, good music and very reasonable prices. we will be back

They have a Market Day on Saturday with everything to take your interest. We had a real fruit ice cream with strawberries and one on the top. YUM!! Organic Peanut Butter real roast. Hats and shoes and little thing of interest. Well worth a day out

Been to Matakana a number of times and always enjoy it. The whitebait fritters are my fave. There is a good varity of stores from your usual craft stalls to boutique shops, food to die for and atmosphere brimming with happiness! Great way to spend the day with family or friends.

We have visited Matakana Markets several times and always have a marvelous day traversing the stalls, sampling the local cuisine. Whether its Olive Oil, local breads, cottage brewed beer, or you simply want to eat, then Matakana never fails to hit the spot. The mussel fritters are a must. More coffee vendors would be good however.
