Description: Matakana Village and Matakana Farmers Market, one hour from Auckland...
Matakana Village and Matakana Farmers Market, one hour from Auckland. Close enough to visit, far enough to stay. On Saturday the vibrant farmers market is a focal point for the community and its growers to meet. Produce fills the stalls - fruit and vegetables, delicious home-baking and Italian-style sausages, divine organic chocolate, fine wines and boutique olive oils, locally-brewed beer, cafes and live music. Matakana is a unique mix. Rainbow Valley Farm is a world-famous model for permaculture. You'll find a riverside gallery next to the new cinemas, the best in contemporary literature just over the road from teahouse or cafe.

Been to the Matakana Markets around 4 - 5 times and I have loved it every time! The key is to get there early to avoid the crowded lines. The markets are a lovely outing for a Saturday brunch...they have some yummy stuff out there. My recommendation - Buffalo and Blue Cheese Burger - it is the best burger ever!... More

Nice location and quaint markets in weekend but fills up fast which isn't so nice. Good array of things to eat and buy if you have plenty of money.

about an hour from Auckland and once you get there find parking cause everything you need to do is in walking distance...shops gifts markets on the weekends and many good restaurants....or if you take a picnic you can go down but the river under some trees and enjoy the sun......if there is no sun rather spent inside sipping nice warm... There is a market on Saturday mornings (and possibly during the week as well) which has locally grown produce, a café ("LoveShack") that provides great breakfasts, a renovated cinema and a great pub. The people are lovely, it is easy to walk around and there are a range of shops including an art gallery with items to die for.

Brilliant Farmers market on Saturday. This little rural town takes you back in time and enjoy the good old time of having fresh food at the markets. Great snacks and music, a great place to relax.
