On Saturday the vibrant farmers market is a focal point for the community and its growers to meet. Produce fills the stalls - fruit and vegetables, delicious home-baking and Italian-style sausages, divine organic chocolate, fine wines and boutique olive oils, locally-brewed beer, cafes and live music. Matakana is a unique mix. Rainbow Valley Farm is a world-famous model for permaculture. You'll find a riverside gallery next to the new cinemas, the best in contemporary literature just over the road from teahouse or cafe. « less

We were disappointed in the market at Matakana. We have been twice now and on both occassions have come away disappointed with the goods that are on sale. There is some lovely products on sale but very little fresh produce compared to other markets we have been to. We were not alone as other people we spoke to were also... More

I live in Mangawhai and we are getting a bit of a good reputation for our Saturday Morning Market, but for a few years now I have been going to Matakana Market and Just browse and buy the odd thing or Two and generally soak up the atmosphere. They have a great little cinema and my Partner and I will... More

You needn't a full day, but 2 or 3 hours (including a meal or snack at a bistro) spent here is food for the soul. Charming shops, friendly staff, lovely scenery, and delicious food. If you're in the area or headed past on the highway you should absolutely stop for a bit.

A Little 40min drive out of Auckland is the magic little Matakana Village Market. I have lived in Auckland for nearly 5 years and only just visited this for the first time last weekend. It is a rustic wee set up of local characters, cuisine, music, boutique shops, craft stalls and treats. They even have a wee area where people... More

Love going to the markets here. A lovely little township although can be a bit pricey. Nice for a treat or for a long weekend away.

Several sunny days in April - missed the Saturday Market, but the Pub [lovely outdoor fireplace], riverside dining, good cafes, pottery, nearby sculpture trail [around a bush-clad lake], and just ten minutes drive to Regional Parks & beaches. A great place for a wee break, staying in a lovely cottage just two & a half km.s out of the village.

Wonderful market every Saturday and people drive from Auckland to visit. Loads of other interesting places to see and a simply gorgeous location.

The farmers market is open on Saturdays and in the summer they have a craft market in the same spot on Sundays. There is a nice cafe, The Black Dog I think it is called and the pub is very pleasant for a cool beer and lunch. A bit further on is the Morris and James pottery with a lovely... More
