Savage Memorial Park is a green oasis on Bastion Point overlooking Waitemata Harbor. It is dedicated to Michael Joseph Savage, "New Zealand's most beloved Prime Minister", and he is interred there. The memorial itself consists of a very tall stone spire on a stone plaza. On the entrance side, one descends stairs into a huge, sunken area populated with flower... More

great spot for picnic lunch /kite flying and take binoculars to watch the Auck Anniversary races just below. Lots of walking tracks to Orakei Marae and down to Kohi beach. Toilets and lots of parking plus an arbor area to sit and Mickey Savages memorial.

I visited this park & the gardens were beautiful, views even better, we hired a rental car & we left our locked car for 20 mins, on our return the back window passenger side was smashed, our handbags (hidden under front seats)both stolen...i was told by the gardener, it happens often...please be very careful...

The gardens were very well maintained and the view from the garden was spectacular! Definitely a must-view when visiting Auckland! :-)

This is the perfect place to impress that special someone with a surprise adventure and picnic. It's STUNNING! Easy to get to, especially from Mission Bay, an incredible view, perfect in the sunshine and the flowers are just beautiful.

I accompanied some friends from overseas and took them for a drive in Mission Bay as it is one of my favourite places in Auckland. I had however, forgotten about Bastion Point as I had not been there for ages. We used to go up with pizza or fish and chips on a weekend evening and watch the sunsets a... More

Would love it if o. The weekends the mobile coffee van was up there. Then you could sit back and take in the view. Lovely garden area always well kept. Shame sometimes about the people who can't keep their hands to themselves and vandalise stuff. Parking can get busy

We arrived in Auckland and left the airport in the coach to get to the Memorial Park before the sun went down. After a nice ride we arrived to a brisk but not too cold place of serenity. The architecture was attractive with the correct amount of gravitas without being too heavy or ornate. The obelisk was a beautiful centerpiece.... More

Bastion Point looks out over the Waitamata harbour and is a great place to view the activities. It is a great place to stop if you are taking a drive of the waterfront and is close to other attractions if you are on the tourist trail. Bastion point has had an interesting history since European settlement and was the site... More
