Beautiful black sand beach

On a sunny day its looks like diamonds have been scattered in the iron sand. Classic wild west coast beach. Need to be very careful if swimming there, wild and dangerous surf.

We always take our visitors here. Great place to view the city and sprawling suburbs. There's also a nice we walk around the summit for people who want to stretch their legs. Can get chilly on a windy/cold day.

The drive was approximately 30 kilometres north-west of Auckland City. It has bush and coastal walk options too. Seems to be a fav spot for surfers too.

We hit the black sand beach later in the afternoon due to weather and travel. SO worth the trip - perfect sunset, and as it was a Friday night there was some live soft music playing with a lot of locals and travelers enjoying the views and music. The music echoed off the cliffs so beautiful and memorable. The sand... More

I have a soft spot for Bethells Beach for so many reasons. When I just came to New Zealand, I used to drive anywhere to take photos. I was waiting for the sunset in Betthels when I started speaking to a NZ couple and after 30min, they invited me for dinner and sleep over at their stunning house with unbelievable... More

Wild and unspoilt beach that is not good for swimming though surfing is popular her. With a permanent lifeguard post (for the summer) this is for experienced surfers only. Great walks in the area.

Beautiful stretch of beach, but not really for swimming. Cave is amazing as well as sand dunes. Easily accessible.

This is a review on Lake Wainamu not Bethells Beach This lake is on Bethells Road before you get to Bethells beach, there is a large car park there. signposts are good. takes about 30mins walking from the carpark to the lake, highly recommend to take the route via the stream rather than via the sand dunes (the sand gets... Our favourite spot at Bethells is over the sand dune to O'neills bay very picturesque. You need the tide to be out a bit to get there though. Walk the other way and there are cool caves to explore lower tides are better for that too. Don't forget to wear your jandals on a hot day as the black sand... More

Great area to walk in. Bethells is part of the Hillary Trail and walkers can walk through from Arataki in Titrangi. The cliff view near Goldies Bush are fantastic. The beach is a great place to relax and cool off. Surf life guards are present during the weekends and over the holiday period.
