Well worth the drive through the Waitakere Ranges. A short walk from the car park brings you out in the middle of the beach. A stunning spot with a huge expanse of sand. If you turn right and walk over the hill/sand dune to the smaller beach you will be sure to be bold over. This beach is stunning and... More

Bethells beach has a special quality that draws us back time and time again. It is a stunning west coast beach with a backdrop of soaring hills covered in native bush. At low tide you can walk into a large cave that people used for picnics and concerts around the early 1900s.

I took the walk round Wainamu Lake and then on the first part of the Te Henga walkway. Admittedly it was midweek toward the end of April, but I didn't meet anyone else. So I can definitely recommend this for those seeking peace and quiet! All parts of the walk were clearly marked, and readily accessible to those have average... More

On a sunny day its looks like diamonds have been scattered in the iron sand. Classic wild west coast beach. Need to be very careful if swimming there, wild and dangerous surf.

We always take our visitors here. Great place to view the city and sprawling suburbs. There's also a nice we walk around the summit for people who want to stretch their legs. Can get chilly on a windy/cold day.

The drive was approximately 30 kilometres north-west of Auckland City. It has bush and coastal walk options too. Seems to be a fav spot for surfers too.

We hit the black sand beach later in the afternoon due to weather and travel. SO worth the trip - perfect sunset, and as it was a Friday night there was some live soft music playing with a lot of locals and travelers enjoying the views and music. The music echoed off the cliffs so beautiful and memorable. The sand... More

I have a soft spot for Bethells Beach for so many reasons. When I just came to New Zealand, I used to drive anywhere to take photos. I was waiting for the sunset in Betthels when I started speaking to a NZ couple and after 30min, they invited me for dinner and sleep over at their stunning house with unbelievable... More

Wild and unspoilt beach that is not good for swimming though surfing is popular her. With a permanent lifeguard post (for the summer) this is for experienced surfers only. Great walks in the area.
