There were expansive views of beach and headlands from the carpark closest to the beach. No eating places were open yet because it was too early in the season, so we had to cut our visit short. We were hungry! The carpark a little further from the beach at the trailhead was a green and pleasant place. We had intended... More

We didn't spend much time on the beach during this outing. We went mainly for the hike that starts at Bethel's beach and continues along the coast. It is part of a larger trek, but we only did this small portion. It was very hot and even with tree cover, was a difficult walk. If I could do it again,... More

My dream wedding came true at Bethells Beach Cottages. A truly blessed day, with wonderful hosts, John and Trude and a outstanding view. Anyone that can find flaws in this place, would just be a pessimist. Truly truly beautiful. A memory that will last for ever.

I decided to tackle the Te Henga walk from Bethells to Murawai in December, amazing views! One way the walk is 10.5km, but you will have to walk back again (unless you leave a car at each end) making it 21km - took me about 6h30min with breaks included. Make sure you pack a camera, comfortable shoes with grip and... More

We had a lovely time, wasn't too crowded like some other more popular beach. Plenty of space to have your own space. Kids loved playing with the waves, however it is a rough beach. There were plenty of things to see and ventures. There is a small food truck sells food and drink by the beach entrance which is quite... More

Black sand beach with beautiful views. There's a cave at the end which is not to be missed! A popular beach during hot summer days.

Black sand wild west coast beach, windy and lots of sand dunes. Bit of a walk to the beach through the dunes

Bethells Beach / Te Henga, isolated and quiet ( apart from the sounds of the birds) is almost heavenly, if one is not into crowds on a beach!! The beach was wide and long when the tide is low and one can go for long walks on the beach enjoying the solitariness of the walk and the strong sea winds... More

My lovely wife and I spent a couple of hours at O'Neills Bay the lovely beach 10 minutes south of Bethells. It is well worth the walk over the sand dune. Just remember to pack the sun screen as there is little shade and be surf aware as there are no life guards and the waves can be a little... More
