very informative, lots of native birds

great day trip, best to book a guide for the extra $5 as you learn a lot about the history of the island and the birds present.

Tiritiri Matangi is a magical place. Catch the ferry from either downtown or Gulf Harbor and be whisked away to another time and place. Where native NZ birds frolicked freely, safe from predators. Their beautiful voices echoing across the native bush and their colors flashing through the trees. Sit quietly at one of the feeders and watch as a multitude... More

This island is very serene and peaceful. The volunteers on the island do a walk (I think it is $5) which is a donation to the island and I would highly recommend it. The guided walk talks about the history of the pest free island and also the different types of native birds you will see. The boat ride over... More

If you want to see some very unique birds and flora, this is definitely a worthwhile tour to go on. The guides were knowledgable and friendly.

Very interesting island - the bird life, we were rewarded with beautiful bird song and it was exciting whenever we sighted a gorgeous bird. The volunteer guides are excellent - so knowledgeable and friendly and passionate about the island.

A vera intere stinge area to' visit if you are keen in any outdoor activities such as hiking, photography, birdwatching or even sea activities I take it during the warmer months. This is a sanctuary maintained mainly by volunteers. There lots to do as mentioned above. So it suits for everyone. Bare in mind that you would need to bring... More

This is a beautiful island designated as a wildlife sanctuary off Auckland Bay - You visit there by boat, starting from Auckland Central or, North Shore (Auckland). It helped my understanding of NZ ecological landscape, and invasive spp problems.

Tiritiri Matangi Island is an wildlife sanctuary in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. You can call the place a haven for native and endangered species. It look likes a paradise, particularly for birdwatchers.
