A Wonderful Haven for our Native Wildlife

Walk the boardwalks - sit quietly and watch the birds feed. Up close and personal. Lovely place to visit on your trip to Auckland

With reference to my other listing “scandalous” I said if 360 made amends I would acknowledge that. They sent me a voucher for a trip for 3 people as compensation, although by this time our son had returned to Scotland. However we had an unexpected visitor from the USA who seized upon the opportunity so that was quite fortuitous. Mechanical... More

You can also stay on the Island, worth doing to hear the dawn chorus. Two to three days is ample for a recharge

Best thing my wife and I did on our honeymoon. Extraordinarily friendly and knowledgeable guides (we had an awesome guy named Brian), beautiful scenery, amazing birds. Didn't partake, but the overnight option looks great too. We would happily have played multiples of the $5 guide fee as you have them for around 2 hours and their love of the island... More

We took the shorter boat trip from Gulf Harbour, rather than leaving from Auckland. We had booked the guided tour (a mere $5 a head). Our guide was excellent, she was very knowledgeable and patient. She was able to identify the different bird calls. The island is a credit to all the volunteers who have worked so hard over the... More

We are bird watchers and took the guided walk. The volunteer guide was excellent and knowledgeable and we saw many birds that we might have missed without him. Scenery is great as well.

This is a wonderful excursion. A boat ride takes one to an island which has been returned to its natural state. Rare, endagered birds fly overhead and forage on the ground. Old growth forest remains in a few places with bird song throughout, the rest reforested in the 70's. Great efforts underway to keep predators off the island, including insects.... More

We enjoyed the cruise to the island by boat, the enthusiastic volunteer guide and the opportunity to have a lovely walk through the bush looking out for rare and endangered birds. Remember to take your own lunch with you.

This was an incredibly beautiful island. Even without seeing so many rare and endangered birds, this was a wonderful experience. Our volunteer guide was extremely patient and knowledgeable. This was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand. A must see for anyone interested in seeing the natural, native New Zealand.

Wonderful place for birding. Make sure you reserve a tour in advance as tours do not go every day. Saw all the birds on my wish list! Guides are very knowledgeable and helpful.
