If you ask a local for top ten things to do, this will be in there. It's offers great views over the city and surrounds and is well worth the treck up.

The long, winding road up to the top; of the hill was pretty, and the views of the city from its top were spectacular!

Visited for a gathering with friends & family in the park. Didn't go to the top but the surrounding park is a lovely place to picnic and to enjoy the summer weather.

Awesome aiming point for a stroll or run through cornwall park. The animals are an excellent addition, live stock in the middle of million dollar suburbs!

The park-like grounds where you could picnic or just relax and enjoy the scenery. You can walk or run up or even cycle to get your exercise.

If you are brave enough I would attempt the run/walk/ride up the hill and you will be rewarded by an amazing view at the top. If not, driving is OK too. Pick a clear day. Alternately, picnic also appear to be popular.

Just a short drive from the city centre is the one tree hill. Although the famous tree was cut down due to a dispute between two Native Waring parties many years ago (So I have been told), the spectacular view and the cool breeze at any one time during the hot summer days is a pleasant relaxing experience. A small drive out of town for a 360 degree view of Auckland and it's surrounds. We were told by friends about this, and didn't really expect much. But we were very surprised by the height and view. Worth the trip. .
