Glad I did this! Walked from the bus (~20 min.) and then made the climb. Good exercise, but nothing crazy strenuous. Views from the top are spectacular--a 360 view of Auckland and its harbors that was great for getting one's bearings and understanding the geography of the area. Very cool history, too--do a bit of reading before you go so... More

Nice view of Auckland. You can drive there, so don't go there on an organised tour though its not worth it.

What a beautiful view from the top on an extinct volcano. The hike up is worth it. There is a van that is available for those who can not do the climb.

first time visitors to auckland would appreciate getting up to mount Eden to have an understanding of how auckland is laid out, with the districts named after the extinct/dormant volcanoes.

Mount Eden has a stunning view overlooking Auckland city, the harbor and the various stadiums in Auckland. Also gives a breathtaking view of the mountain crater. Simply beautiful and amazing!

Great views over the city, and easy to get to, but not spectacular per se. We spent about 10 minutes total here, which was fine. Would be nice to hike up if you're so inclined...

You cannot visit Auckland and not go on top of Mount Eden. Crater of a long dormant volcano is a view in itself, but 360° panorama of Auckland is even better. The only things that can spoil the experience are your possible inability to hike to the top and not having a car, and swarms of asian tourists that sometimes... More

Needs more interpretive signage otherwise have to go on a tour to know what the actual history is of the area.

You get to Mount Eden walking from the downtown (better to do it by car, but you can achieve it on foot). It has some nice areas to play sports or rest and the crater at the top has really good views of Auckland and the bay. A place worth visiting!

Most flights from North America seem to arrive in Auckland in the early morning. We learned long ago that the best cure for tiredness and jet-lag is to stay up as long as possible on your arrival date to allow your body to adjust to the local time zone. Couple that with exercise and there are few lingering effects to... More
