This dormant (extinct?) volcano is right in the heart of Auckland, and is easily accessible by road (bus, car, bike, hike). The crater, with its carpet of green, is impressive. The 360-degree views on all sides were fantastic... provided a great overview of all areas of Auckland (unlike the Skytower, these views are more human-scale...). Our only regret was that... More

Of all the mountains in Auckland this gives you the best views of the city. It is the closest high point to the central city area and has commanding 360 degree views. There are a number of areas around the summit that you can easily walk to and there is the nearest point to the city which is worth sitting... More

This is well worth a trip on a spare day. It's got the best view over Auckland (better than the Sky Tower because the Sky Tower is too central). If you get a nice day it's great to chill up there with some food. Try taking some fish and chips from the local fish and chip shop the Ancient Mariner.

Mount Eden is one of the sights that was recommend for the first-timers in Auckland. Using the outer-link buses, it was a long journey to reach from Ponsonby. I strongly advice doing some research and take other buses which would bring you there directly. Walking up Mount Eden is easy and takes close to 20-30 mins if your pace is... More

I have always liked this area of Auckland as it is the only truely Village atmosphere with good shops and eating places. Near by is the Mt Eden extinct Volcano with superb 360 degree views over the City. I went here to BAY AUDILIOGY for replace my damaged hearing aids. Also POKENO Pork Butchers for Bacon second to none, so... More

Nice to have somewhere to take the kids for free!! Fantastic views over Auckland. It helped that it was a stunning morning when we walked up there.

We came here in the end of October 2013, spring to watch the sunset. This was our 2nd hike after one in autumn. Mt Eden isn't the most spectacular hill, at upfront. It isn't very high, and some fellow travellers in dorm argued that Devonport has a prettier sunset. So it is up to everybody's choice. Personally, some attractive points... More

I visited both skyline tower and Mount Eden. Both provide decent skyline view of Auckland. But I found Mount Eden much much better than skyline tower coz (1) you can enjoy nature here (2) free of cost (3) much broader view of the city as its located in between the city (there's harbour on one side of skyline). I would... More
