Went back for visit to the otara market ,and sad to say it has lost the spark and volume it had a few years ago.You could get just about everything you want, there where heaps of stalls, now there seems to be very few, maybe it will bounce back, but hard to see that happening in todays climate.Avondales market seems to have more to... Well Otara Market is the the place and I'm surprised not more tourists visit. We are now Aucklanders have been for couple of years. Shopping for way cheaper veges and fruit on a Saturday morning has become the thing to do for us. Far far cheaper than supermarkets. We were a bit dubious about the food caravans but tried some... We landed on Saturday earlier and wishing to do something different went to Otara Market. We found it a good place to see the locals shop for basic fruit and vegetables along with Chinese imports of toys, shoes, hats, etc. If you need to shop and want good prices then go, as far as a tourist spot, go only if... I've read a few glowing recommendations for this market so feel a little bit sad to say it wasn't that great. My girlfriend and I were in Auckland for the weekend and drove down on Saturday at around 11:00. To get there from Auckland, drive down the southern motorway and take the Otara exit. Turn left onto the main road... More
